Editing an article about yourself
There seems to be some indication that you are in fact Matt Sanchez. If so, please review and follow Misplaced Pages's policies on editing one's own biography and on conflict of interest. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 16:38, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
- The two problematical items you mentioned on my talk page aren't in the article anymore, so hopefully they are no longer an issue. As you know, it's pretty much impossible to keep inaccuracies out of an article; the best that can be hoped for is that they are promptly removed. (In that regard, I just removed a category, in the article, related to one of the two items you mentioned.)
- In general, negative information about a person if it lacks a reliable source can be removed "on sight", per WP:BLP. If you do need to remove such information in the future, and run into any resistance, please feel free to drop me a note; I'll be happy to help on that or anything else I can.
- As far as anything else, please note that I'm just another editor here. I do hope you find the policies above to reasonable. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 19:18, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Just want to add to what John Broughton said--I'm really trying to work on getting this article NPOV, and the insertion of unrelated images and unsourced anecdotes are just making it harder (not to mention probably inviting more anonymous attack edits). I happen to think there is no need for this article at all; that it was tossed up as a blogosphere-directed hit, but as long as it's here I want to make it as fair as is possible. FYI, John Broughton is extremely fair and isn't part of the groups inserting weasel words and libelous statements. Seriously, take his advice. :) --Beth C. 20:59, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Matt, first I think words such as 'escorts' are giving you the benefit of the doubt to begin with: maybe nothing more than a full-body massage happens in exchange for $300/hour. However, I find it strange that in articles you allegedly wrote and said "I'm not denying it" and "it happened over ten years ago" that you would turn around and now deny it completely, conveneniently as a "don't ask, don't tell" military investigation has opened up. For someone who has courted controversy, this about-face when the wind changes direction is quite stunning.→ R Young {łtalk} 05:20, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
License tagging for Image:MattSanchez.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:MattSanchez.jpg. Misplaced Pages gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Misplaced Pages, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. 20:07, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Violations of policy
Please stop adding information to the article Matt Sanchez.
Per Misplaced Pages:Autobiography, It is difficult to write neutrally about yourself. Therefore, it is considered proper on Misplaced Pages to let others do the writing. Instead, contribute material or make suggestions on the article's talk page and let independent editors write it into the article itself.
In particular, unreferenced (and quite possibly unverifiable) statements such as these, which you added, are inappropriate:
- An autodidact, Sanchez has been able to both acquire several languages and pen articles in those languages
- Lovingly referred to as Refer Mechs, Marines claim the jack of all trades combat engineers have the most important job in the Corps: Keeping the beer
- Matt Sanchez was known for being especially muscular. His fellow Marines asked him to move a refrigeration unit without a crane. Rumor has it, that he did just that. There are also reports that his arms (19") did not fit well into his Marine camies and that the sleeves needed to be tailored to accommodate his girth.
Please let other editors evaluate what is appropriate to add to your article: It is impossible for you to have a neutral point of view. And please not the per WP:NOT, Misplaced Pages is not an indiscriminate collector of facts; we don't put everything that is known about a person into that person's biography.
If you continue to add information to your own, article, you may be blocked for violating Misplaced Pages policy. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 21:11, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Neutrality
There's no neutrality here. The bloggers are breaking their own rules. I added a different interview with Kevin McCullough. You have not been at all neutral. The LGBT community wishes to publicly assassinate me, and you insist that I have no neutrality.
I suggest we post the longer, more thorough Kevin McCullough advertisement. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluemarine (talk • contribs) 07:08, March 28, 2007 (UTC)
Name-Calling

My face is everywhere online. 00:35, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Matt Sanchez
Matt,
Why do you insist on calling everyone a name ('jihadists,' 'these fags') that you don't agree with? First, I wouldn't be surprised if you were 'straight' but that would make you 'gay-for-pay' which means you performed gay acts for money...i.e. 'prostitution.' You said yourself that 'pornography is prostitution' which by YOUR definition makes you a (fill in the blank).
Notably, you call people 'faceless cowards' when in fact their faces appear online. Hmmm. You complain of bias but you break every rule to push an agenda which is itself biased, contorted, distorted, and totally unsupportable. I think you must be enjoying the attention. If so, keep it up.→ R Young {łtalk} 04:29, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Matthew Sanchez (born 1 December 1970) is an American United States Marine reservist, activist and author, a student at Columbia University, and in the 1990s was a performer in pornographic movies under such names as Rod Majors. He first started achieving major public notoriety in early 2007, when he made complaints of harassment at Columbia University, against students who allegedly called him a "baby killer" for being in the military. He appeared on several television talk shows about the incident, and in March 2007 was awarded the first ever Jeane Kirkpatrick Academic Freedom Award. At the award ceremony, one of the attendees, conservative columnist Ann Coulter, drew negative attention by referring to presidential candidate John Edwards with a homophobic slur. In the ensuing controversy, it became public knowledge that Sanchez himself had been a performer in homosexual/bisexual adult films in the early 1990s. The story became popular in the blogosphere, especially among homosexual bloggers who insinuated rumors about the details of Sanchez's past.
Hey Matt, you should be able to figure out who I am by now.
Also, by the way, I am NOT involved in any efforts with www.mattsanchez.info or any of the 'smear' campaigns. I AM involved in attempting to maintain Misplaced Pages neutrality by not letting you run roughshod over the truth. I had thought you had reached an acceptable compromise earlier when you agreed to an 'allegations of escorting' section. Due to time constraints, I don't have the time to devote to you right now, though you'd love that. However, I will return around May 9. Talk to you later. Love, Robert.
P.S. I've never licked someone's boot. However, you can ask me what I do lick if you'd like. Also, I am a Republican and I do support the right of the military on campus. I do not, however, support pathological lying and misrepresentation of the facts. R Young {łtalk} 03:31, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Biography
Sanchez, who describes himself as being of Puerto Rican origin, was born and raised in San Jose, California, graduating from Independence High School in 1988. After high school, he traveled to England, Italy, France, China, Australia and Spain where he taught English at academias, an informal language center for students. He lived in Quebec in the 1990s, working in the adult entertainment industry both there and in Los Angeles, after which he moved to Germany, where he wrote for publications such as Time Out in Berlin. In 2003, he joined the Marine Corps, where he was trained as an 1161, refrigeration mechanic at Aberdeen, Maryland.. He was later activated to support the shipping of equipment overseas. Sanchez was meritoriously promoted to Corporal on March 2nd, 2005.
Adult film career
In the 1990s, Sanchez worked as a performer in adult films which were primarily targeted towards the homosexual and bisexual market, starring in videos for Catalina, Bijoux and Falcon Entertainment. He appeared in Robert Russell a.k.a Kristen Bjorn's Call of the Wild (1992) and Montreal Men (1992) as "Pierre LaBranche", and Idol Country was released in 1997;] (released in 1994), as "Rod Majors". The porn films in which he appeared had original releases no later than 1995; however, scenes from some films have been re-released as part of compilations. The compilation Touched by an Anal a more recent release was in 2006, Mansex Meltdown. Sanchez stated in an interview with Radar Magazine that it "was just the nature of the business, you shoot a lot of films and they use them forever."
Columbia University
Sanchez returned to college, starting at Borough of Manhattan Community College in 2004, and then in 2005 transferring to Columbia University, studying in the School of General Studies. He was elected as editor-in-chief of the The Observer Columbia University's oldest literary journal, and as a reservist in the Marines, focused on promoting veterans' rights on campus, such as working towards approval of the Columbia University War Memorial, a project to honor all alumni who have fallen in American conflicts since the American Revolutionary War. Sanchez is also a contributing columnist to the Columbia Political Union's multi-partisan blog, TheColumns.org, and has recently become a staff writer for the the Columbia Spectator.
Political activism
Sanchez first became known on campus for his pro-military stance. At age 36, while a junior at the university, he stated that he was harassed by on-campus leftists for being in the military, and made public complaints about the situation. He claims that on Activities Day, while he was working at a table representing one organization, members of a student group known as the International Socialist Organization called him various epithets such as "baby-killer" and that he was a stupid minority. Columbia investigated, and while they expressed sympathy for Sanchez's experience, found no grounds for punishing the three accused students. At that point Sanchez took his story to Fox News, and it became a major national media event, with stories on Fox News' Hannity & Colmes and The O'Reilly Factor, and Sanchez receiving support from conservative leaders such as Michelle Malkin and Newt Gingrich. In an article for the Columbia Daily Spectator, "The Conservative Witch Hunt", one of the accused students later disputed Sanchez's allegations.
Sanchez and other student veterans have also voiced their frustration at what they perceive to be a lack of regard for veterans on the campus, as well as frustration with Columbia's policy against on-campus military recruitment. The university does not permit any organization that discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation to recruit on campus. In February of 2006, the university amended its non-discrimination policy to include "military status" as a protected group; replacing the more specific "disabled or Vietnam era veteran".
On March 2, 2007, Sanchez became the first recipient of the Jeane Kirkpatrick Academic Freedom Award for his work fighting discrimination against military and veterans, at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). A featured speaker at the conference, Ann Coulter, made some controversial remarks at the event, referring to presidential candidate John Edwards as a "faggot." This sparked public attention and controversy, during which Sanchez's earlier career as a star in gay porn films was brought to light. The story received a great deal of attention in the blogosphere, where rumors circulated that Sanchez had also been a prostitute, and these rumors were then reported on television, such as during the MSNBC Countdown. Sanchez revealed that Countdown never bothered to contact him before running the television report. Countdown sourced several gay blogs to complete the report, as well as committed left-wing ideologue Max Blumenthal who claimed that Sanchez was apart of a greater "an underground railroad" for fallen gay right-wingers..
Blogging Rumors
Critics charge that Sanchez has given conflicting statements about rumors from anonymous bloggers. In a March 8, 2007 interview with Alan Colmes, when asked if he had worked as a male prostitute during his time in the porn industry, Sanchez dismissively replied, "I own up to all of it". In that same interview, Colmes also stated he contacted Sanchez that day, at the same phone number that he found posted in an ad for massage services in the New York Blade Nov. 19, 2004. Colmes later admitted he did not know where the number came from. In an op-ed piece in Salon.com, Sanchez likened himself to Jeff Gannon and commented, "I won't deny it, or that I acted in several adult movies 15 years ago under names like Pierre LaBranche and Rod Majors." However, on April 9, Sanchez subsequently denied that he had been a male escort, saying, "Not true." Gay bloggers who feel Sanchez should be a spokesmen for gay causes, despite Sanchez criticism of the gay lifestyle, insist on publicizing rumors of Sanchez' alleged work as an escort.
Marine Corps inquiry
On March 16, 2007, John Hoellwarth of the Marine Corp Times reported that the Marine Corps. had received undisclosed allegations on Sanchez for his porn past. A later report by the same writer appeared on April 1, 2007, indicating that Sanchez was also being investigated by the Marine Corps for allegedly soliciting funds from two organizations, the United War Veteran's Council and U-Haul, in order to fund a future deployment to Iraq. Sanchez has denied the charges; calling them "demonstrably false".
