== Characters of FFVI merge ==

I think your merge may have been premature. I disagree with it on two levels: first, as it currently stands, a huge loss of information has occurred. At a minimum, fixing it would expand the ] page by an amount that perhaps would not be healthy for it. Personally, I prefer individual pages, but I can see the need of merging, so long as no information is lost.

Secondly, if you are going to keep pages for the "main" characters only, then you should most definitely not just keep Terra and Locke. Although they are important characters, they cannot be said to be the main characters in any sense. FFVI was not like the other final fantasy titles in using a main character and exploring their interactions with others. In FFVI, the emphasis was on a ''group'' of characters, and it explored many of them quite evenly. Keep in mind that it is entirely possible to beat the game with only Celes, Edgar, and Setzer in your party, and it will at once be realized that Terra and Locke are NOT the main characters post world of ruin.

Anyway, I feel the situation must be fixed in some way or another, and am calling for comment from other users on the ] page. If you wish, you may defend your reasons for merging there. Thaks in advance. — ] ] 06:06, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

It got promoted to FA afterwards, but I'm a bit concerned with how quick it was promoted - I only got 3 supports, and 2 were from Slayer WikiProject members. I'm someone who plays fair and square, but that promotion makes it look like fan support :(. Wish it was left open for a few others to comment on it before it was promoted. == My first Mother's day! ==

Sweetheart, if you forgive me the slightly-more-than-24-hours delay, I'll once again thank you for your warm thoughts regarding my first Mom's day, and I'll tell you it was unforgettable. No fancy parties, no gifts - just me and my princess, the two of us alone. I took her to the park, and enjoyed the walk wih her in my arms. It sounds simple, but trust me, Tyler dear, I'll never forget it as long as my heart beats. Once again, thank you for thinking about me, guardian angel :) Love you, ] - 03:20, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

== Quick Risk query ==
I was just wondering if you could help me out. Earlier I was working on an article to complement the main ] board game article. It ended up being decided by ] that it should be on one of my personal user pages where I could edit it until it was more finished. Here's the ] if you need/are interested in seeing it for clarification.

Basically I just want you to move the edit history along with the article. I would have asked Robdurbar to do it but he has left wikipedia since. You don't need to worry about linking it to the main Risk article, I can do that. If you have any questions or need any clarifications please feel free to ask. Cheers. ] 17:51, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
:Thanks for the response, I have two quick questions. 1) You mentioned that the font colors should be removed. I'm assuming that you meant the wikilinked names of the boards (red and blue). Should I get rid of both or leave in only the blue? 2) Perhaps this is a stupid question but what exactly do I need to reference? Don't take this question as me saying I don't want to, however, I would prefer to only reference that which needs to be referenced. FYI my main intent for putting this into the namespace was so that other people could work on it with me and help me finish it. I'm not quite sure that I see the difference between this and a typical stub article that is floating around. But yes, thank you for all your help thus far. :o) ] 22:08, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

==Final Fantasy IV==
I had a thought, wanted yours....what do you think of, at some point, merging the characters and locations of Final Fantasy IV into "World of Final Fantasy IV"? I am pretty sure that article could be GA at some point, since the DS release will hopefully give us a big chunk of development info. ] 20:32, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
:One other thing, I've been trying to trim down Airship and put it into the Common Themes of Final Fantasy, but I am having some trouble shaping it down. ] 01:19, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
::Perhaps we should check to make sure that these details from when we just merged ] is in the Final Fantasy wikia, because if it is, you can have a clear conscience about "moving" it from there :) ] 16:04, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

==Okay, I tried==
Alright, I really thought I could do this time. I really thought I could have a disagreement with someone and work out on my own, without having to call and admin into the mix. But now they're calling for a third party and I was wondering if you could give your two cents at ], it's been going for a few months. If you want a good example of what the articles looked like before I started editing them, here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Insensitive_%28House_episode%29&diff=108649839&oldid=108627795

Every House episode article had been formatted with this. Note the empty sections which were placed in every article regardless if they were filled with anything. Including the Pilot episode article that I helped get up to FA status. I hope you can help me out here. ] 03:24, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

== Target audience ==

So, sorry to insult you. I agree with much of what you say about what WP should be. I'm glad you arn't aiming at an educated elite. But
* My comment was relevant because much of the argument about spoiler warnings is really an argument about the purpose of WP, and hence about its "target audience".
* It '''is''' elitist to divide readers of WP into "target audience" and "other". People looking for information about whether to play a game are still looking for information, and should be catered for. Well written articles on WP can do them a service that review sites and amazon can't.
* My models for a "scholarly" encyclopedic approach to works of fiction are the massive ] encyclopedias of Science Fiction and Fantasy (because I happen to own them). Of course these are much less detailed than WP but their focus is indeed on critical reactions; they highlight innovations but don't obsess on plot: even central works are generally not described in enough detail to spoil the enjoyment if you read them later. Because this sort of info provides a pretty reliable guide to quality, I've read and enjoyed many books years or decades after they were first published which I otherwise wouldn't have bothered with. This kind of serendipity was certainly one of Clute's main aims, and I don't see why it shouldn't be for Misplaced Pages.
* I think it would make an excellent WP article, with full verifiability, if, some time after a game was released, the editor collated major reviews, especially in specialist game mags, and summarised the major comments, along with things like sales figures, awards, etc. Of course this info is available at review sites, but the reader has to do the collation himself, and doesn't get the benefit of WP editors' consensus checking of reliability. Even better would be to describe how later games (& other stuff) was influenced. Obviously this would refer to notable features of the game play. It seems to me this is what ] is advocating.
* You seem to think a "complete" description of the plot is essential. But a plot summary is always a summary... the editor has to decide how much to include. Who benefits from a ton of detail? Not a prospective player...it's bound to contain spoilers. Not an experienced player...they know it already. Presumably, someone who has no real interest in the game but needs to know this info. I can think of a few examples, but nobody I'd want to spend hours working for free to help.
* Bottom line. IMHO an encyclopedia is a tool for providing relevant information. Doing so in a way which satisfies the demands of as many readers as possible is a good. Too much information can actually be off-putting to most readers and serve the interests of a very few. Spoiler warnings at least give visual clues to help skip info unwanted by probably the large majority of readers.
] 19:21, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

*Hmm, if you want to continue this discussion, let's do it here. 2 responses to your latest comments: agree FF7 is at least 2x too long...seeing as it was repeated referenced that's the one I checked out. But mainly, we have plenty of unwelcome ''editors'', but I'd say no unwelcome ''readers'' (a word I used above with care). If they just come to read they are looking for info and we should try to supply and not scare them off. ] 20:31, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

==World of FF8==
You should totally push this one for FA status when you get the chance, it looks awesome, just thought I'd let ya know! Also, I fixed up FFIII DS a bunch, let me know what you think :) ] 05:27, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

== Spoiler warnings. ==

While, as you could read on the related page, I did apologize for using excessive profanity in my rant on the latest crusade against spoiler warnings, I find your threat to block me from editing based on that edit quite insulting. I know that kids in their teens think they know everything and always believe they have the moral high ground, but seriously, even a tiny look at my contributions indicates my desire to improve this project, usually calm and even tone in such debates, and hundreds of helpful edits, and I find it quite offensive that you generalized and threatened in your post on that thread. If, as my admittedly brief and possibly mistaken research indicates, you are one of those anti-spoiler-warning crusaders I am irritated against, it makes it an irresponsible and biased display of your mop and bucket, as well. ] 07:59, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

==Re:FF8 plot==
Hmmmm... it does have fewer script references than I'm used to seeing (prolly because it promoted before my "time"). In general, I saw a ''lot'' more script refs for the Characters of FFVIII article. At any rate, I'll see what I can do. The goal is to trim, yes? I also noticed that FFIV's plot section is ridiculously long. We'll see if we can't help with that too, hmmm? ] 22:26, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
:Script refs. Gotcha. I'll get on it right after my last exam tomorrow. ] 00:04, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
::Okay, I added 15 script refs and reworked some of the other sections. What do you think? Does it need more work? ] 01:35, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

==Should have saved the "Rampage" analogy till you really needed it LOL==

== formal rubbish ==

Oh yes, that's a good one. "Note that ..." might fit into the formal frame ... maybe. But I removed your "yuck"; one only, I think, per list! I'm going through the MOS like a dose of salts, from the top. I see that it's prompting a few others to copy-edit. The MOS has grown fat and shabby through committee, and needs a good massage/trim/rationalisation. ]

DYK redundancy

Why don't you have a go at removing the redundancies and making other improvements on a separate page, then asking for feedback. I'm having some success using that method (Non-free content, featured sound criteria, now the MOS, dare I say it!). See User:Tony1/MOS comparison: Capital letters.

Star Wars on the main page

The original Star Wars film article A New Hope will be featured on the main page in a few hours and someone has replaced the poster with a free-image of the hotel that was used for filming. In my own personal opinion, I find it to be ridiculous substitute for the poster. I've appealed to User:Raul654 (who is out of town and may or may not have access to the internet) and User:Pharos who changed it (and has answered me back yet). I was hoping that you would back me up on this maybe consider placing the poster back in yourself. The Filmaker 18:32, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Featured article candidate

Hello, my name's Paul, and a few weeks ago you were kind enough to support an article I had nominated, Quatermass II, in its featured article candidacy. At the time you also asked if I would "please write some more FACs." And I have done so! I currently have the article on Rudolph Cartier (the director of Quatermass II) up at FAC here. It's been up a few days but not attracted many votes either way thus far — any chance you could possibly give it the once-over and say yay or nay? Many thanks! Angmering 18:37, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

It would be a good idea to modify your Esperanza page as follows (since Esperanza is no more):

You clicked my green "e"!

The green "e" in my signature means that I was once a member of Esperanza, a now defunct association of Wikipedians dedicated to strengthening Misplaced Pages's sense of community and building a support network for its members and non-members alike.

Spoiler warnings

If you really want to keep any reference to plot out, you're welcome - but I do feel the 3rd para hints at that anyway, and that I was just making it more explicit. In which guideline, if any, do you think arguments such as this should exist? I reckon the problem sentence containing "(such as Misplaced Pages aspires to be)" could still use some work as well - your thoughts? --DrumCarton 21:48, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Well, i suppose the aim, as with any WP policy, is to gradually drift towards a compromise. At least this isn't the kind of issue people are going to tear their hair out over for weeks (I hope). If another couple of people come in and start editing the policy, and if people work towards compromises (as you did to my edit) rather than total reverts, it should all sort itself out... --DrumCarton 22:28, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

WP:GA

I've been meaning to say hello, and thank you for your sensible and positive comments at the WP:GA talk page. I have the impression you are dedicated to try to make GA work and I admire that. I think it could work, and have been trying to make positive suggestions myself. There is a lot of despair about the process from the scientific/mathematical side of WP, and it must be quite challenging to address it, particularly if reviewers make matters worse by not reading the guidelines. Good luck, anyway, Geometry guy 22:35, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

I think we agree in general about what WP:GA should be. Please be bold; I will support almost any alteration which seems likely to make the process work. (It is cynicism to suggest that what is actually needed is an editor transplant.) Septentrionalis PMAnderson 23:05, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Merger crazyness

Hey, sorry I haven't been around the past few days. My computer broke (and remains broken) while other issues conspired to keep me busy. Anyway, don't take the backlash from the merges so hard and don't try to feel responsible for the hastiness and ultimate fiasco. You never got over-excited or pushed over-zealously (from what I saw) so it's not right that you take the fall for it. Oh well, it looks like it's mostly over now. Star Wars

Alright, well it looks like I'll be working on both ROTJ and the main Star Wars article in light of the new FT criteria. I had question though, do you think the infobox is appropriate? It seems as though these are for individual films and to add them to series is rather redundant and crowdy (considering the number of people that are involved in the series). your draft

I do think it should be in the indicative as far as possible, avoiding "must" and "should", don't you, with the possible exception of the opening statement? Tony 14:12, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

You mean complying with the guideline will be "touchy"? Are a lot of existing articles going to have to be changed because of this?

My argument at NFC (a nest of vipers) and MOS, which is currently being overhauled, has been that to say how it "is" done, which establishes a more cooperative, friendly tone (could be bossy otherwise). It's still pretty strong to say "Blah is done this way", rather than "Do blah this way", or "Blah should/must be done this way", which soon become bleached. Then, of course, when you really do need to mark a point, using "should/must" carries a lot of weight. The FA criteria have been transformed in this way, too. But it's up to you; I didn't want to change it if you weren't happy (which you're not). Tony 15:06, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Request

Hi Deckiller, I was wondering if you could help?

A user called User:Gazzer1991 is blatantly uploading fair use content and claiming that he created them, which is pure nonsense. Such things he have upload while claiming creation are album covers, video game screenshots, etc. He even gives some of them graphic names such as Image:Nicoinlondonplayingwithhervagina.jpg, Image:Themotherfuckingjungle.JPG, Image:Anothermotherfuckingjungle.JPG, etc. He got told to refrain from doing this on 3rd June, but uploaded Image:Slayerblood.JPG on 6th June. Every image this user has ever uploaded isn't free content in any way, and is definitely fair use though yet still tagged as though he created them - they need to be deleted. I'm unsure what the course of action is usually in such matters as I've never come across this, so I took it to the ANI board but nobody responded. Can you help?
