He was a columnist for SLAM Magazine and an occasional contributor at The Nation. He also writes a weekly column (which is also distributed through his website) for the Prince George's Post, where he is "sports editor". His first book, What’s My Name, Fool? Sports and Resistance in the United States (Haymarket Books) has entered its second printing.

Barry Bonds Steroids Controversy
Zirin maintains the opinion that the aggressive hatred toward the alleged use of steroids by Barry Bonds is mainly due to racism. Zirin is also one of the few sportswriters who honestly believes Bonds has never done steroids.
