A proposal re: Vandalism Templates
While I sympathize with your assertion that an accusation of homosexuality should not be considered defamatory, in common usage, as in this case, it often is. The {{uw-test}}
is for edits which might be accidental. And while it is almost certainly vandalism, {{uw-defamatory}}
allows for the possiblity that the edit is true, just unsourced. —dgiesc 03:22, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Plastax
Regarding my Plastax submission:
I do think the term "plastax" warrants its own entry in Misplaced Pages, for a few basic reasons.
Firstly, the entry on plastic shopping bags does not use the term "plastax," either in reference to Ireland, or elsewhere. Someone searching for the meaning of the term plastax will type "plastax" in the search field, not "plastic shopping bag." As an important environmental/economic concept, plastax is a word that deserves to be defined independently.
Secondly, the implementation of a plastax is being considered by other municipal governments in the U.S, notably the New York City council. Hence, it warrants its own entry as the concept becomes more widely considered as a solution to prevent the spread of plastic bags.
Lastly, my entry provides more detailed info on the tax rate, including its current rate and future increase.
- Might I suggest a redirect to Plastic Bag and the information about tax to be added to the Ireland section? If that is not acceptable to you, feel free to post your article to my talk page and I will create it for you. However, I fear that the article may be proposed for deletion or debated for such due to the limited scope and availability of information elsewhere. I'll let you make the call, and am happy to see you here improving Misplaced Pages!--Xnuala (talk)(Review) 14:01, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
re: WP:AFC
Thanks for your comments. I kind of just stumbled onto the page today and thought I'd take a stab at weeding out the more obvious declines. I didn't realize there was a backlog. If I summon up some boldness I might take a look. =) Powers 23:11, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Articles for Creation
It certainly would interest me, although the idea did hit me recently of organizing a Misplaced Pages Real Life group project in NYC (where I work) of hitting up the New York Public Library. I will definitely take a look at that list and try to set up a date in the coming two weeks and head to NYPL with some items off of that wish list. Thank you for pointing it out to me! --Ozgod 23:04, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- I definitely will become involved with it but I would still most likely find myself running off to NYPL with items off of that lists. Again, thank you for pointing it out to me! It make take me a little bit to get comfortable with it before I start diving in and becoming really active. --Ozgod 23:10, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- My eye spies this little page linked to the backlog on the project page and I see a juicy list for me to hit NYPL with. --Ozgod 23:15, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for picking up my suggestion for an aryicle on the Parliamentary Conference of the Americas. For the time being, I'd rather continue contributing (Council of State Governments, Henry Klumb, etc) on an anonymous basis. Once again, thanks! 200.50.30.126 01:34, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Dunn solar Telescope and Vacuum Tower Telescope
(Ref: Misplaced Pages:Articles_for_creation/2007-05-27#Dunn_Solar_Telescope)
These creation proposals appear to be in danger of landing on the back burner, so perhaps I could ask—what about them requires an expert? I put all the detailed technical info straight into the existing article; it's just a matter of renaming. And I thought the information about the names was sufficiently well-referenced to be clear to anyone.
Can I supply any necessary information you're waiting for? 71.41.210.146 21:21, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi there! Because your request requires a rename of an existing page, I'd like to make sure that there is consensus within the community to make the move. I posted on the article talk page, so perhaps if you would like to communicate with other users interested in the telescopes and point me to that I would be happy to do the move for you! Basically, I don't want to step on any toes if the move is controversial, and I requested expert assistance because I'm not at all knowledgable about the topic. Are you aware of any controversy that making the move might cause, or can you provide me with some resources so I can learn more about the topic? Thanks for staying involved, and I'd like to make sure that your requests are dealt with! --Xnuala (talk)(Review) 23:35, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- H'm... the 1998 press release announcing the renaming seems like a pretty definitive source, as does the current DST web page, which you will note also has "DST" embedded in the URL. Here's a reference that still calls it "the Vacuum Tower Telescope", but defers to the official name of "Dunn Solar Telescope". A brief googling will turn up lots of other examples, and googling for "vacuum tower telescope" will turn up references to either the German instrument, or ones from before December 1998. The November 6, 2005 Astronomy Picture of the Day is the only exception, because it's a reprint of the October 5, 1998 one. Notice that the "Vacuum Tower Telescope" link it gives is broken, because the web site was redesigned.
- I'm not sure which community you're referring to (astronomical or Misplaced Pages), but I don't really know anyone in either. I just hit "random page" a few times a day and see what I can improve. As far as I can tell, it's an article that not many people care very much about, so posting to the talk page isn't likely to elicit much response. I could telephone the observatory and ask them what they thought, but wouldn't that be "original research" as opposed to "verifiable sources"?
- I've already edited the text of the article to say what the above research revealed, so any harm is sort of done already. 71.41.210.146 01:03, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for the welcome to the AfC stuff, and the invite to the project. Actually I've been around AfC for a long time, and you'll find my name deep in the development of many of the templates that're still used today, along with many many reviews and page creations. ;-) I just took a wikibreak from it for a couple months (since it gets pretty overwhelming after a while, especially when I was about the only person doing AfC reviews for a month or two there) and have just returned from it. Glad to see that there's a project now though, that's great! See you around. --Maelwys 13:08, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Re: Chris Phillips
You wrote: "But if he had not scored that goal, then Anaheim's 4th, 5th, or 6th goal would still have ensured the win. Calling it cup-clinching seems not to be particularly neutral. Your thoughts?" My thoughts are that you don't seem to understand the definition of a "game-wining goal". Goal_(ice_hockey): A game-winning goal (GWG) is the (n + 1)th goal scored by a team that defeats a team which scores n goals; e.g. if team A beats team B 2-1, the scorer of team A's second goal is credited with the GWG, regardless of whether the scoring is 0-1, 1-1, 2-1; 1-0, 1-1, 2-1; or 1-0, 2-0, 2-1. Therefore, since the game ended 6-2 in Anaheim's favor, the game-winning (and, thus, Stanley Cup-clinching) goal is goal #3, credited to Travis Moen (unassisted) at 15:44 of the 2nd period.

Braco Article
I'm not too sure whether the article should be on Misplaced Pages. A search on the internet finds only the sites that the user has provided as sources among a lot of sites advertising services in Braco. The fact that it is the site of an ancient Roman fort may make it notable. Make a stub article without the pylons? -- Hdt83 01:01, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

A Song for Arbonne is the only Guy Gavriel Kay novel without an article
Hi,
I wasn't sure how to explain why this novel's entry is important for inclusion within my article on the book because that wouldn’t fit into what the article should be, and so I hope it's ok if I explain here. Misplaced Pages has a list of Guy Gavriel Kay's books, his full bio and articles (summaries) on all his other nine novels or series. A Song for Arbonne is the only novel without an article and likely deserves to have a summary/identification as well as all the other novels do, especially for many new readers who are unfamiliar with it to see it. All of the novels articles are summaries and plot outlines, and I fashioned the Song for Arbonne article based on them. If the article (summary) needs improvement, which I acknowledge entirely, then that’s other than the book not being ‘worthy’ of acceptance into the encyclopedia, which you can surely see is necessary.

Re: 1300's fashion
Thanks for your reply! I tried to summarize and simplify the chapter as much as possible, although that's difficult with such specific facts. As far as I know, I never quoted directly, and as the source was cited (as in a research paper) I assumed that would be enough for the purpose. Was I wrong in my assumption? If you'd like, I could also type out for you the content of the pertinent chapter for comparison. Thank you again!--Ash

Hello, just to let you know, I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow, so I won't be around to fix up the template if it breaks or needs something added during the next two weeks. AFC work, possible bot functions?
Hi there,
Thanks for all your hard work on clearing up the AFC backlog. Hopefully we can help get this terrible backlog out of the way. Almost none of the remaining submissions are verifiable so I'm just mass declining them all (and see no reason why they should be accepted in any case). Any suggestions for doing it quicker?
I'm looking to develop a bot (I'm a PHP developer on toolserver) that automates declining AFC submissions and would love to have some input from you as to what sort of functions this bot could serve, what templates you use commonly, and what would make your work on AFC more productive. Feel free to get in touch via email or my talk page.
