You already did, and I have commented there. I think the word "blackmail" is probably a bit POV without stronger & more detailed sources, but I am generally sympathetic. i {{facted}} a statement in the article that he "never commented on politics", which I doubt very much. cheers ] 18:48, 9 July 2007 (UTC) |

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Volonté Fistful.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Volonté Fistful.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 00:36, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Sassetti Chapel again
I hope it meets with your approval. I rearranged the pics and list and so on, in accordance with chronology, and left the story of the child to last in the frescoes, even though if you progress left to right, it's second last, so I explained why, within the article. Good work! --Amandajm 13:35, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Helloo!
It is done! I hope that you will excuse the fact that I have omitted one small and valuable artifact. Because of the current situation in the world, I make it a principal not to give the location of small valuables, unless they are safely in a major museum. Last week, two old nuns were murdered for a small reliquary. --Amandajm 12:13, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
Chris Claremont
I don't know why you reverted Chris Claremont, but he did have a cameo on this week's episode of Heroes, "Landslide". Be less trigger happy on anon edits please. -- claviola (talk to me) 17:28, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- It's an article about a person with a pre-existing section titled "career outside Marvel Comics". This is a notable event in that part of his career. Is it not biographical information? I have seen several other articles with such detailed information. -- claviola (talk to me) 12:38, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
Cast table
Actually, the cast table I converted is the standard for the Film project, but was in the process of being updated to list information for each character at the request of User:Alientraveller. For examples, see the cast sections listed in the film articles on his user page. Your reversion is in error. —Viriditas | Talk 09:47, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
Castelseprio Mediation
This is my second attempt to contact you regarding this mediation, my first was either overlooked or ignored. A mediation request regarding Castelseprio has been in the Cabal since February. In an effort to clear out the backlog older cases like this one need to be handled promptly. I would like to begin mediation immediately but I prefer to have the all parties involved approve of me as a mediator before I begin. If I don't hear back from you soon I will consider your objection withdrawn and close the mediation. Please get back to me as soon as possible (leave your response here, I will be watching). - HammerHeadHuman 18:57, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- A preliminary response to the mediation request has been made. Please review it at the above link and comment as you deem necessary. Thanks! - HammerHeadHuman 18:10, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Two "World Heritage Sites in Italy" templates
Hi Attilios,
At a glance, these templates appear to carry the same content as Template:World Heritage Sites in Italy, so I'm wondering what subtlety I'm missing...? Thanks for enlightenment, David Kernow (talk) 02:15, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- It's to allow highlighting of the distinct cities (see bottom of page of Caltagirone for example)...
- Thanks! Now I understand "5T" (Cinque Terre) as well as the Val di Noto reference. I incorporated the Cinque Terre and Val di Noto expansions in the main {{World Heritage Sites in Italy}} template and was about to suggest that it could now replace those above, but, looking again at the main template (and others in Category:World Heritage Sites by country templates) I was struck by the "density" of the list of sites. I began toying with an alternative design here, but it looks unavoidably unwieldy. Does the current {{World Heritage Sites in Italy}} seem "dense" to you; and, if so, do you think a version that uses only the article names rather than the official UNESCO names might improve or impair the template...? Thanks, David (talk) 03:47, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- ...I've added a version using short Misplaced Pages-article names below the template on at the "here" link in the above. David (talk) 04:09, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- The idea is good, but frankly I don't like the too spread format. It'd remain in the "continue" list as it's now. Ideas? ...
- Yes, I agree; I tried condensing the spread format, but it would still be too large. So I've amended {{World Heritage Sites in Italy}} to include the Cinque Terre and Val di Noto expansions; would it be okay to use it in place of {{World Heritage Sites in Italy (5T)}} and {{World Heritage Sites in Italy (Val di Noto)}}...? Yours, David (talk) 12:30, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Re Italian Sites
- I had tried to modify the template exactly the way you did now, but the one who believed to be its lord ath the time reverted it. This is why I added those two version. Happy now, it's perfect. Ciao and good work. --Attilios 09:33, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Glad you approve. Thanks for your friendly messages! Best wishes, David (talk) 09:48, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Raffaello da Montelupo and Taddeo Zuccari
Hello Attilios! I just wanted to make sure I understood why you removed the place of birth and place of death from the introduction paragraph to the article I wrote on Raffaello da Montelupo. I know that "da Montelupo" means "from Montelupo" but not everyone will have that understanding. Also, you removed Orvieto as his place of death. Your edit description said "wikifying." I was wondering if the form of birth/death information, etc. was subject to some policy? Please let me know. Grazie mille! Ho letto che tu sei da Roma? It is one of my favorite cities (I want to retire to Italy someday). Ciao! NickInBigD 02:43, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Molte grazie for the explanation regarding Wikistyle for birth/death information, etc. I have been working on a number of bios, including Italian Renaissance artists, so it is good to know. (I have also been trying to add images from Wikimedia Commons to some of the Vasari artists that had no illustrations). Yes Rome is a wonderful city - I was there in 1987 (5 days), 1996 (two weeks) and 2004 (1 week). My favorite architect there is Borromini (Sant'Ivo and San Carlino alle quattre fontane). I must schedule another visit soon. Buona giornata! NickInBigD 16:21, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Hello again - just wanted you to know that the error you corrected regarding the "Il" preceding "Crocifissione" on the image accompanying the Taddeo Zuccari article was the result of my copying verbatim the caption from the image I pulled from Wikimedia Commons. Your edit commentary suggested a certain level of frustration with those of us who are not fluent in Italian (Aaahhh... if one could get rid of those typos from people ignoring Italian language....) I certainly did not intend to "ignore" Italian language, but was probably too inclined to to accept the grammar of the Wikimedia Commons originator (who claims "Questo utente può contribuire con un Italiano di livello intermedio"). I will certainly try to be be more careful in the future but can't make any promises. NickInBigD 22:05, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Mountain categories
Hi Attilios. I wonder if you have seen my query on ]. There seems to be a visual problem - it looks bad - if these category lists are composed of mountain names with a mixture of initial letters, ie if we have Mont Blanc under 'M' and Monte Disgrazia' under 'D'. If all Italian mountains are going to be changed like Monte Disgrazia being moved from 'M' to 'D', it might be over-complicated, messy and hard to find the peak you want (as an English speaker). At present the Mountains of Italy category list is a mess in this regard as well as being inconsistent (some are listed under the initial letter, some aren't). What do you think? Ericoides 13:17, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response, Attilios. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree! Ericoides 13:58, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Perugia references
Hi Attilios, in the last few days I've worked to reference the article Perugia. Most of the work is done but there are still a few improvements to do. When I perused the history of the contributions I noticed that you've been one of the most active editors. So I'm here to ask if you could cite the sources of your contributions in the section Main sights of the article Perugia (e.g. I havent yet found anything in my trusted sources about a marketplace in the area of San Domenico). Yours faithfully, --Grifomaniacs 22:10, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well done, you did a great work. However I think that the section with the books should be named bibliography. In fact this a list of books on the same topic not necessarily referred to in the article. Regarding Foligno I think that the abstracts at the top of the article would be as clear as possible. Therefore I paid a visit also to Umbria and there are serious matters in the section People of Umbria.--Grifomaniacs 18:07, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- Perugia Cathedral is a great article. I checked it and added a reference. Cheers,--Grifomaniacs 22:49, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I knew something was wrong but I knew you would find it and fix it! Try spelling Woolloomoolloo. One of the ls is singular, but I can never remember which. (It's a harbourside suburb of Sydney, used to be smelly old dockland with noisy pubs, now it's fashionable and priced out.) Pity, I like smelly old docklands. You can always buy a good meat pie! (which, smothered in tomato gooey sauce, is the Australian quick snack) Can you believe there actually was no article on Italian Renaissamce painting??
Just tell me you like it! --Amandajm 01:03, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Viviers, Ardèche
I've reverted your recent change to this page. For such an extensive deletion, maybe you could put your reasons in the article's talk page. Cheers, Kiwipete 09:04, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
No problem
I too have a short list of good editors whose recent contributions I occassionally sift through. (Improving Misplaced Pages can be hard work, but its good to know there are other editors trying!) I have been working on sorting out the feudal structure of Italy in the 9th and 10th centuries. You can look at these pages, if you'd like: March of Carniola, March of Istria, March of Tuscany, March of Friuli, March of Verona, March of Ivrea, March of Turin, March of Montferrat, and March of Genoa. I also noticed how you've been working to move ecclesiastical history stuff from city articles to their own articles and removing Catholic POV statements from them. I have been thinking that a concerted effort needs to be made to improve the pages on church history which have apparently only grabbed the interest of very devoted Catholic editors. (I am thinking about articles on saints.) The structure of the Catholic church played such a prominent role in medieval Europe; its diocesan articles deserve to be better and more historical. Anyways, ciao and good work. Srnec 22:47, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Una problema
Cremona Cathedral (it's stunning!)...the description, and what my eyes inform me do not match! It is not the upper loggia which is Renaissance in style, but the upper section of the building, including its pediment. I'll write a different description, and see how you like it. --Amandajm 04:06, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Cremona again
OK! From this distance and from the few photos I can find (Flikr) my impression is this:-
- Church begun early 1100s, west front probably complete by about 1120 and perhaps repaired changed later in the century, faced in marble and given upper galleries (which is what we would call them in English.).
- North transept, facade built late 1100s and has remained intact
- Baptistery built, say 1200, intact
- South transept facade 1200s, intact apart from two doors which have been blocked up and a marble plinth.
- two story porch around west door, 1200-1300 and incorporating earlier elements.
- The vault of the chancel, what remains seems to be 1300s
- The tower, 1200-1300s
- Loggias on either side of the main porch built in 1400s. Connecting to the Campanile.
- Facade extended in the late 1400s or early 1500s then doodahed up a bit more in the 1600s
- Baroque decoration of the interior left much of the Gothic of the 1300s intact, but transformed it with overlays of decoration.
This is my reconstruction of what might have happened. It's not just the combo of the Baptistry and the Main facade that is pretty specky, it's also the combo of South transept front and Baptistry, and the combo of Tower, North transept front and the loggias on several adjacent buildings which are part of a brilliant cityscape.
At least, that's how it looks from 8,000 miles away. Would you do some more homework to check my dates and facts, pleeease?
--Amandajm 09:16, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- specky as in spectacular
Dunno wot this refers to, ajm
You have deleted images of details in high resolution that are IMPOSSIBLE to find anywhere, and I took them PERSONALLY in the museum. Art critics and historians are frequently in desperate need to see the details, and such images are incredibly precious.
Misplaced Pages is about comradeurship, adding, sharing and cooperating, not destroying without even understanding what you are doing; it is not about policing and imposing. You should contact those who take care to create new pages with your advice first, make a suggestion and work together. That is called civilized communication, instead of arbitrarely damaging not only someone's work, but depriving other people of the most precious information. The whole spirit of this site is to create collective intellegence, not to satisfy someone's policing ambitions.
Perhaps you should get these prinicipals first in your mind. And the POV you refered too is for controvercial subjects, well, Annunciation is not such, at least it has not been until someone like you just deletes precious knowledge without giving a thought of what he is doing.
Be considerate, it helps.
Annunciation
naughty Attilios! You were too rude! You were almost as rude as I am when I remove something and write "utter codswallop!" Now, if this is the same person whose images you deleted, you should tell her nicely how to get them back! About the language, yes, you are right. I will try to be more gentle. meanwhile, what about Cremona? --Amandajm 12:59, 25 May 2007 (UTC) PS. I'm just going to have to tell her that Misplaced Pages is full of pedantic people with A.S., who love humanity, but forget that they do, when they are confronted with things that don't quite fit the system. Oh no! no! no! You can't do that here, not on wikipedia you can't! ;) --Amandajm 13:05, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
Attilios!
out of her mind? Mate, you're out of your tree! That is not a nice thing to say! I'm gunnahavvanuddaloo-kat that article and write her a little note....Now, just get out of my hair for about half an hour. Nonna will talk to you later! OK Ciao!--Amandajm 13:11, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
Yoo hoo!
OK, I left a message. I hope everything is sorted out. I was fairly polite. I should have been more positive, but I forgot how. Bugger. The rule is, say nice things first...the rule is say, nice things first...I'll do it better next time. ...I was really awfully rude to this well-meaning and very clever (it seems) young chap of 20 on wiki the other day, and he returned my message so politely... I must try to be positive! I must try to be positive! Now get on with Cremona! --Amandajm 14:00, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
You ask me what I'm working on
I need a little break from serious things sometimes so I go somewhere entirely different and then, Oh no, it gets serious again.
There is an article Roof which seems to have been written first by an American, and then by an Australian builder. So I sorted it out, and removed all the references to Australian trade names etc. Put in lots of pictures. I thought they might be cross with me, but they loved it! Luckily, I am quite technical and i know a little bit about roofing.
It's not worth getting too pedantic about either style or citing references when you are dealing with people who are writing from thir own practical experience. A good example is Bee. There are about a million pages. They are all written by someone who obviously knows the subject in minute detail. I don't really think it matters very much if people with vast knowledge share it through this encyclopedia. It's not an academic subject! For the most part these practical people are imparting knowledge that no-one is going to argue with.
Not like some subjects. Renaissance architecture had a pic of a Russian cathedral. It has been removed. Why? It was "outrageous"!...? OK, know i'm going back to remove the outrageous statements from Ichthys. --Amandajm 14:58, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
That annunciation, etc.
Hi Attilio,
I had a look at the article and drafted some fairly extensive advice on how the article should be made more encyclopedic, beyond the good work you were doing in bringing it into line with the conventions. I posted a little bit of that, together with some sound advice to the editor. But actually I became more concerned about copyright and sourcing issues, which I commented on more extensively. Anyway, it does look like the revert war problem has gone away. It’s a shame she’s finding it difficult to adapt to the Misplaced Pages working habits, and was so ready to imagine that you were acting in some destructive manner. (She must have good taste: her previous edits were to Schoenberg’s Moses and Aaron—I heard the opera for the first time last year. I admit I had some trepidation a whole opera’s worth of late Schoenberg seemed likely to be very heavy going. But I was enchanted throughout.)
The other thing to say is thank you for the barnstar. Coming from you it was really appreciated. I am sorry I didn’t reply at the time, but I was in a very introverted mood where I was finding it hard to make even simple contacts with people. Thanks again! And keep up the usual good work! —Ian Spackman 16:16, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
You're absolutely right, but softer is better ;)
Dear Attilios, I quite agree with you. The Van Eyck's Annunciation article needed a quick intervention and you've done the best things to do. However Gradiva is a new user and doesn't have an high level of seniority like you. Gradiva may not understand as fast as other more experienced users the importance of the guidelines and this is our attempt to give a guidance to her/him. Moreover this is not such a big deal who is right and who is not (because this is too much obvious you're right!), and that's better to clarify in our interventions that our purpose is to give only constructive criticism. And I sincerely think that a softer approach would have generated a more positive outcome of the Gradiva's unsuitable reaction. Hoping to have helped you, yours --Grifomaniacs 21:20, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
License tagging for Image:Martyrdom Michelangelo.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Martyrdom Michelangelo.jpg. Misplaced Pages gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Misplaced Pages, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. 23:08, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Emmanuelle primo 4.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Emmanuelle primo 4.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Misplaced Pages articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ilse@ 23:04, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for your effort to provide a fair use rationale for this image. I would like to mention there are several necessary components in a fair use rationale, maybe this template {{non-free media rationale}} can be helpful to you. – Ilse@ 23:14, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- The fair use rationale should explain what purpose the image serves and in which article this should be allowed under fair use. – Ilse@ 10:57, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi Attilios!
Stop sulking and tell me what you thought about my comments on Cremona. --Amandajm 00:52, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for the hug! I am down in the dumps. I have a funeral tomorrow, of a young man who has been quadriplegic for several years, but never ceased to keep everyone entertained. We will all miss him a great deal.
- About Cremona, I sent you what I imagine to be the facts, but they are drawn from looking at a few photos. I can't determined if my conjectures are true or false. Thee may be something in Italian that you can read to confirm my ideas. I can't work on it properly until I know. Aspects of the upper part of the main facade are very like Sant' Agostino in Rome. I wonder if it is the same architect.

Use of "Label" column in tables
The only reason I have to use the Label column (where I typically place arbitrary numbers) is that I find it easier for the eye to find the row if editing is needed. I checked out the article, read it thoroughly. I can't find any problems with the style, the grammar etc. I didn't even find any typos. This person specialises in editorial rather than contributing material. I have left a message asking for an explanation. He has another request for an explantion... but the other one definitely needs a tidy up:- "Mile End Road" was written "mile end road" for example. I think the request is nonsense. I'll put it on my watch list to make sure no weell-meaning person chops it to pieces. --Amandajm 05:50, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- I just had a message from Trusilver apologising for unfortuunate action and saying that he had three monitors open and accidentally tagged the wrong one. He reread our article and said it was "perfect".--Amandajm 01:59, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Capitalization of Italian films
I've seen it both ways in the literature, but it's likely the capitalized versions are incorrect. Is there any particular reason that Italian films are never capitalized? Savidan 15:53, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Done! and I have worked on the image and improved the poor colour and tone a good deal. It always loses a little of the resolution, but that doesn't matter at low resolution. I never delete the original more detailed upload. What a gruesome picture that is of St george and the dragon, particularly the half eaten female, still in the remains of her chemise. Keep up the good work! --Amandajm 14:01, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Edit summary
You placed this edit summary at Bishop of Porto and Santa-Rufina: there's only one word to define this stuff taken from Catholic Enc.... it begins with "Sh" and finishes with "it". Now, you and I have already discussed your wish simply to cut references of this kind from articles. You didn't actually reply to my point (which is that you had cut too much). Need I emphasize that edit summaries are not to be used in this way? Charles Matthews 18:17, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Basilica di San Zeno
It is done, Bambino! I have expanded the architecture of the facade considerably. I had fum working out what some of your not-quite English expressions were intended to mean. I have rejigged the photos and made many of them smaller, reordering the text to fit the pix in better. I expanded the interior view, on the other hand, because we need to see the details, but the tower, Mon Dieu! it was so large that it dominated the whole page! It would even scare the birds away. I hope that you like it.
Oh, another small thing, about "narthex". A narthex is a horizontal porch or hallway right across the front of the church, and not a very common feature at all. The big internal hallway that goes across the front of St Peter's, Rome, is called the Narthex. That church of Santa Maria in Bologna is rare in having a Narthex and an Atrium, the enclosed courtyard in front of the church. There are not many atriums either. San Clemente has an atrium. Santa Maria in Cosmedin has a narthex, where that beastly Bocca della Verita thing is, and there is another very old Ch. nearby, is it S.M in Velabrio? which also has a narthex, built onto the side of an ancient Roman structure (I'm not sure if I have the right church there). Anyway, a structure that juts out from the building over the door is generally just called a porch, even if it is enormous. "Narthex" implies that it is partially enclosed. You know the transverse entrance to Palazzo Massimo? That's a narthex.

License tagging for Image:Tempio malatestiano.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Tempio malatestiano.jpg.
11:09, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
It's San Giorgio!
I raced into both Prassede and Pudenziana just before getting on the train to go to Florence. There was a yung man standing outside Santa Pudenziana who said "No! No! you cannot go in! It is im-pos-sible!" ....because someone was practising on the organ for a recital.... So I gave him the comeback "yes, but in Rome, everything is possible!" He raised his super-cool shades, gave me a look of studied boredom and said "cinque minuti". (is that right?) Anway, I looked at the fabulous mosaic, which was all I had time for! Santa Prassede is absolutely wonderful! The mosaics around the chancel arch are spectacularly Byzantine. You suddenly feel as if you've been transported to Ravenna. I think you are right about Santa Prassede having a narthex. As for my "funniness" you will perhaps explain. My neighbour always calls my son "mio bambino" and feeds him on pasta and pizza, both of which are terribly bad for him. Well, I will look at one of your other little projects that i haven't seen yet. This Italian series is really coming on nicely! --Amandajm 04:20, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
Santa Maria dei Servi
It's done! I remember this church well. I had such a nice time there and met a very interesting woman who said she was so lucky to live in Bologna. She said that every now and then, she would pretend that she was a tourist and wander around, looking at the architecture and artworks.
Anyway, you will see that I have added more information, most of which I got off a site which I have "inline cited".
Do you mind getting back there and making the links work? You can sort out the references to Italian buildings much easier than I can! --Amandajm 06:36, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
San Zeno
That pic of the tower of the abbey is not a very good pic, and detracts from the interior, which is more important. That is why I reduced it. --Amandajm 06:48, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- Attilios, how can anyone be engaged for nine years? It must be a euphemism! I was under the impression that you lived quite close to Rome. I once went to Rome with my husband and, according to him, we earned a plenary indulgence by praying at 40 churches in four days. But we still missed some important ones! I've tried to count up the ones that I remember and I can't get beyond 24 so I think it was an exaggeration! --Amandajm 09:26, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Barthelemy
As you know, I am usually fine with your edits, but the first batch you did here did have some mistakes that altered the sense, plus I don't think eg: 1456-1469 is best style - like most editors here I prefer 1456-69 (I tried to see what the manual of style says, but it rather surprisingly does not appear to cover this queation). Also I prefer to say that the dates & places of birth & death are unknown rather than just give approximate dates - I think this is more encyclopedic. So that time I just reverted the lot, but I think incorporated some of them in my later edits. This time I have just changed a "before" to "after". All the best, Johnbod 13:43, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
I asked this. btw Johnbod 13:54, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Little problem
Santa Maria Maggiore, Gazzo. This link isn't working! I would like some more padding in some of these articles, but can't find any details in books. If I find things in Italian, the process of translation is very tedious! I sit here with a very small dictionary, which doesn't have any nuances so I have to use my imagination, which is just fine if I am also using my memory. --Amandajm 00:31, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Those Renaissance painters
Thank you for making all the links work so nicely! i knew I could rely on you to do it! I have put back the bit about "long and narrow" because it is about composition, and even though people can see it with their own eyes, they don't actually know it unless they are told.
As for the blinking Raphael Rooms, no-one calls them that. They are the Stanze whichich never have an accent in English books, so if you want one, you will have to do it because I will be sure to make it go the wrong direction and then maybe it will offend people. It won't make any difference whatsoever to the way that I pronounce it, either, because I'll say it with an Australian accent. --Amandajm 06:50, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Gothic blooming architecture

- In both England and France, which I know the most about, there is very clear stylistic development. In Northern France, you can set up a series of images of cathedrals and trace a linear development between them. In the South, there were several characteristics that were not found in the North, eg some of the Cathedral (Albi for example) are very fortress-like.
- In England, you have about 35 relevant very significant churches, including a few major abbeys as well as the cathedrals. (There are also a number of magnificent parish churches). But just to stick to the cathedrals for a minute-
- They are enormously long, with five or six of them being as long, as the cathedral of Florence. Most of them are more than 100 metres. In every Medieval cathedral except one, (Salisbury Cathedral), the building took hundreds of years to complete. Every building stage was done in a different style, usually with no attempt whatsoever to make things match. The styles are remarkably consistent at any given date. So that I can walk around a building like Canterbury Cathedral and simply look around and say "Those two little towers are Norman, that quire is about 1170, that extension to the quire is a little later in the 12th century, that window is early 14th, the nave is late 14th and that central tower went up in the 15th century." No problem. What's more, the English loved their Gothic, and kept coming up with stunning new ideas, right to the end. The interior of King's College Chapel, 1446-1515 is mind-bogglingly beautiful.
- But then we come to Italy. I've just looked at a whole lot of pics of Italian Gothic Churches. My conclusion is that style simply didn't develop in the same way. I think it would be impossible to trace a linear development as you can in England and France. I think that it is more regional and personal. There are charcteristics of Italian Gothic which are quite distinctive. One thing that seems weird to a person steeped in English Gothic is that some architectes of the period simply didn't recognise the pointed arch as being necessary for the style. They might simply chose not to use it at all, as at Orvieto. It seems really odd to have a building of that date which hasn't responded to the defining feature of the style, but, that's what happened. In Venice they do odd combos of pointed and round, that are specifically Venetian. There's a type of tracery that occurs in Vnice as well.
- So, basically, I'm going to have to approach it from a different direction. I'll take a look at the Italian language article. Can you please give me the link to it?
--Amandajm 12:11, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Caproni A.P.1
Hi Attilios - thanks for your help with this article, but please do not edit an article while it is showing an {{inuse}} tag - that means that someone else is working on the article and has unsaved edits at the moment. I was working on this (and was going to move it to Caproni A.P.1 when finished) and your edits caused me to lose my work - very annoying!
Anyway, since you're obviously interested in writing about Italian aircraft, you might like to take a look at page 2 of the list of missing aircraft - lots of Capronis and CANTs that still need coverage! Cheers --Rlandmann 21:47, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Gothic architecture
I'm right in the throes of editting it, and I think I'm probably making myself unpopular, but there you go! I'm going to dump stuff in different articles, like I did with the Renaissance article. I've just reconstructed English Gothic architecture which was in three sections, all referring back to Gothic architecture instead of having a page on its own. Gothic is really major in England.
I will definitely get to your Italian Gothic article, but I'll do some more on the parent article first. Cheers!

Well the article was a stub and it needs expanding and more information needs to be added but what you did was remove information you didn't understand. It is English and I know it might be hard for someone whose english isn't his/her first language to understand but the thing about wikipedia is that articles can be edited and improved and not removed. What you "hid" was information regarding how the ranking points are calculated which when I was writing down took time to fine out the major points before writing it down. If you can improve it Please do so but do not remove information and call me Illiterate Please..Thank you..--Cometstyles 19:12, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello Darling! Are you following me around tidying up? Please put back the photo credit to Victoria because the photo requires atribution, in order to use it, and whereevver a person states that, I always try to honour it.
There's more work to be done on Gothic, but I've been stuck into Romanesque architecture which was really rather poor. There's a great deal more to be done. If you would like to choose some of the very best pics of Italian Romanesque, say about six pics, including interiors and a representational campanile, you could leave them in a gallery at the bottom of the article, and it would be sooo kind! --Amandajm 10:17, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Image:Monica Seles 2005.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Monica Seles 2005.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Misplaced Pages articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShadowHalo 23:43, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Cacciaguida
Hi Attilios: thanks for your comments;
regarding linking dates; I am following MOS for dates (section 1.9) see: http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_%28dates_and_numbers%29
For specific categorization of years: see http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:People_by_year (section 2)
hope this explains my rationale. Thanks! --FeanorStar7 14:40, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comment; I didn't realize it hadn't been updated for a while; I have seen both uses for the categories; I decided to be consistent and use the nearest date for the category, since people who are reading the article may expect to see the birth category for that date. Now I'm not so sure; maybe I should put a question on the people by year page to get a definitive answer--FeanorStar7 15:03, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Bosco, again
I deleted the section you added, again. I have posted the page for an RFC. Please do not add the information again until some sort of consensus is reached. Any further POV attempts on this issue will be reported as vandalism. --evrik 18:12, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- Translate the entire caption. Give the entire source. Don't inlcude a POV title on the section. It's simple enough. --evrik 18:21, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- Clearly, this edit is a violation of WP:Civil. --evrik 19:38, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- Please stop driving an edit war, and simply make some better and more neutral text. Work it out on the talk page. What you have is incomplete and full of POV. 18:46, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
Re: Cacciaguida and the birth and death categories
Hi Attilios: I have a partial answer regarding the linking of dates from some of the people over at the biography assessment project; what follows is my question and their answers. sorry about the layout problems. I can leave Cacciaguida as it stands if you prefer. --FeanorStar7 07:36, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
"What is the rule for assigning birth and death categories when you have a situation like the following: x person (b. c. 1091; d. c. 1155)?
Do you put it in 1090s births and 1150s deaths or 1091 births and 1155 deaths? My impulse has been to put them into the nearest year possible as I expect readers would expect that. Also do you link the dates themselves? I recently had an editor ask me about this. As I am assessing the articles, I like to make sure the appropriate birth and death categories are in place. Please advise --FeanorStar7 05:23, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
I would link the dates and put them in the exact birth and death categories. Just my two cents. Psychless 00:16, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
It's a tough one, and it's been done inconsistently. For a long time I used the exact year, like The Psychless suggests; then I was doing the decade (e.g. 1150s deaths); now I'm back to using the specific year again, when the source gives one year (e.g. born c. 1555). Another problem occurs when you know someone's age at death (common with Renaissance composers) but that gives you two possible birth years. In that case I usually do the "1550s deaths" method. I don't think anyone has come up with a standard. Antandrus (talk) 04:45, 6 July 2007 (UTC)"

reverting
Hi Attilios, why did you revert my edit at Province of Trento? It is kind of useful if you give an explanation. Perhaps I should give a more detailed explanation why I put the notes on TN and BZ. I used something like I saw on Santorini, since there is a bit of confusion that exists for foreigners about the different between the Province of Trento vs. Trentino and Province of Bolzano vs. Alto Adige/Seudtirol. Cheers, Icsunonove 01:32, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, fair enough. I removed it from the BZ page as well. Icsunonove 11:31, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
coor title
At Google Earth only geographical wikipedia articles with "coor title" coordinates will be published.
Steve9483
I have the opinion, it is better to delete the coordinates from the infobox. Anyhow they are not very important. It is nevertheless better if someone can read Misplaced Pages article at Google Earth.

Santa Maria della Pieve
Wow! I just looked it up on Google images. You are right. It is one of the most wonderful Romanesque churches. I have been to Arezzo twice, in both cases specifically to look at Piero, and didn't see it! What a pity! --Amandajm 02:38, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
- I just wrote the above into Romanesque architecture so I hope that you like it! I will return! --Amandajm 09:12, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Attilios! Thank you for fixing that. The cycle of the months could either be the Zodiac or Labours of the Months. The other option is to link it to Poor Man's Bible which talks about both. But please dont try to rejig to pics or anything like that in Poor Man's Bible, because it's very easy to throw the whole thing out of plumb. --Amandajm 10:50, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

You already did, and I have commented there. I think the word "blackmail" is probably a bit POV without stronger & more detailed sources, but I am generally sympathetic. i Template:Facted a statement in the article that he "never commented on politics", which I doubt very much. cheers Johnbod 18:48, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
