In the 2006-07 Australian Capital Territory budget, the closure of the Tharwa Primary School was proposed. The Primary School closed in December 2006. The Tharwa Preschool is still operating. The annual Tharwa Fair, hosted by the school and the community, will be held in September in 2007 instead of May.
