Sariyer is a sleepy suburb on the outskirts of European Istanbul proper. It was once a fishing village but now houses many expensive villas owned by many of Istanbul's rich business men, actors and musicians.

The centre of Sariyer has a small harbour were fishing is still practiced and a long line of famous fish restaurants, cafes and bars where many of Istanbul's city residents come to eat and drink at the weekends.
