The Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre (Chinese: 新达城新加坡国际会议展览中心), branded as Suntec Singapore, was officially opened on 30 August 1995 as part of the Suntec City development at Marina Centre in Singapore. Previously known as the Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre (SICEC), its current name was adopted on 29 October 2001 as part of a rebranding exercise.

Overview

With over 1 million square feet (93,000 m²) of space, the centre's central venue is much touted, and boasts Asia's largest column-free space in the form of a multi-purpose convention hall with 12,000 square metres of space. The exhibition hall offers another 12,000 square metres of space, which can be subdivided into three smaller halls.

Facilities

Other facilities in the multiple-story complex are offered to supplement the main halls, including a multi-purpose ballroom with an area of 2,150 square metres, a gallery with 3,700 square metres of multi-purpose space, 31 meeting rooms, and a 596 seat theatre. In addition, a concourse on the third level offers 930 square metres of unenclosed space, as well as the main lobby on the ground floor.

Events

Several high-profile events and exhibitions have been held in the venue, including the WTO Ministerial Conference of 1996, which was held just a year after the building was completed. The World Economic Forum's East Asia Economic Summit has been held there several times. Other major events held at the venue include the Asian Casinos Expo, CAREER, IT Show, Modern Living, NATAS Travel Fair, Singapore Motorshow, VoiceComm, the International Food Festival, COMEX IT Fair, the World Stamp Championship, IAAPA Asian Expo, the World Down Syndrome Congress, and the World Cyber Games.

In 2006, several Singapore 2006 events, including the 61st Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, are being held at the venue.
