Categories:Controversial literature includes items which are deemed generally unacceptable, untrue, often hateful, but have attained some historical significance to be retained by research libraries, museums, and other institutions, not for their intrinsic value, but for their impact in history, for incidental research into the circumstance under which they affected religious institutions, cultures, civilizations, or for mere curiosity's sake. The Library of congress is one institution which utilizes such a classification for its holdings.
