UNOI-owned businesses include a full-service gas station, several restaurants and bakeries, a sewing factory, a university, a construction company, alternative-energy programs, and a wide range of other endeavors. All full-time volunteers' food, clothing, shelter, heath care, transportation, and all other needs are provided by the very activity in which they participate, freeing them to focus on the idea that they are participating without any distractions or limitations on what they can produce.
HISTORY | |||

The United Nation of Islam was incorporated on 7 June 1993, in the state of Delaware. The United Nation of Islam is a federally recognized, tax exempted, Nation. The purpose of this Nation, according to its charter, is for the charitable, educational and scientific upliftment of the Blackman in North America, as well as anyone else who has the will to assist in this endeavor. The United Nation of Islam is established to train, educate, teach, and develop the skills and aptitudes of people in trades, manufacturing, contracting, building, erecting, and each and every kind of industrial pursuit, business, commerce, farming and science which will be of benefit to the Nation as well as the planet.
Critics of the UNOI allege that, inter alia, followers work as Royall's slaves in UNOI businesses, and receive no income—yet apply for and receive welfare from the government. It is also alleged that Royall has taken several wives from among his followers. Furthermore, critics point out that Royall—who claims to be God in the manner that ] and ] had done before—is in no way educated, intelligent, or able to actually do math, speak foreign languages, or anything else that God should be able to do. Virtually everyone that is not a member of UNOI sees Royall as a scam artist who uses his followers for free labor, sex, and power.
The United Nation of Islam is a separate, distinct and completely non-related entity from the similar sounding Nation of Islam as led by Min. Louis Farrakhan. The difference between The United Nation of Islam and the Nation of Islam is the application of the teachings of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad. The United Nation of Islam is established as the point where the man can again unite on the Base of Truth.

The United Nation of Islam is dedicated to elevating the thinking of those who have the will to make the changes necessary to bring forth a better way of living in all areas and facets of life. The United Nation of Islam is also dedicated to the gathering of all members of the Nation of Islam, who were registered as Muslim followers of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad, known as The Messenger of Allah, on or before 25 February 1975. These members are sought out and reintroduced to the opportunity of participating in their own Nation, to be rewarded for their faithful duty, while with The Honorable Elijah Muhammad.

When The United Nation of Islam arrived in the Quindaro area of Kansas City, Kansas, in 1996, neighborhood businesses were laced with fortified security bars. Paying customers were sparse. The area had a reputation for being one of the worst in the city — a place where drug deals, prostitution, armed robberies, shootings and murder were a part of everyday life. Thanks in part to efforts of The United Nation of Islam, Wyandotte County is working its way to the forefront of urban renewal across the country. After establishing and developing the motion in Kansas City, the group moved its national and international headquarters to Kansas City in 2001.

Members brought with them a passion — a detailed, and some might say, unorthodox plan — to resuscitate and beautify a section of the community that was on life support. This is a place historically known as a safe-haven for slaves fleeing from captivity through The Underground Railroad. This same place, especially Quindaro Blvd., later degenerated into a distressed, blighted, crime infested and impoverished area. Now hope has been resurrected and the promise of a successful community restored, because of the business ventures of The United Nation of Islam. These businesses and the full-time volunteers who staff them are special because they are focused on “being right” because it is right to do. These businesses are in fact extended classrooms of The United Nation of Islam’s University system; such as their many restaurants, Supermarket & Bakeries, Your Service Station (full service), Clean Wash (Laundromat), Designs for Life (Sewing School & Factory), In Your Midst (fine apparel), Community House of Wellness (medical center), Fountain of Youth (holistic health), to name a few, have been recognized locally and internationally because of the drastic “CHANGE” in this particular community.

The U.N.O.I. was founded by Royall Jenkins, who is its “Spiritual Head” and is addressed by the title Royall, Allah in Person. He was born in 1942 in South Carolina and grew up on Maryland's Eastern shore. At the age of 16, he married Juanitta Gates. He later moved to New York and became a long-distance truck driver for the Nation of Islam. He prospered in the Nation of Islam and remained there, until the passing of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad. Approximately three and a half years later, according to Royall, he came into the understanding of himself and his purpose. In 1989, after speaking with Min. Louis Farrakhan, who was uninterested in any cooperation with Royall, Royall began to establish the U.N.O.I.

The United Nation of Islam has established Mathematical Thinking and Civilization classes which are taught in the local "Allah's Temple Academies" or Study Classes. The U.N.O.I.’s business entities are the physical classrooms where those who are learning how to think Mathematically can produce that which is tangible, that reflects their Mastery of Absolute Thinking (Mathematical Thinking). The system of thinking, called Mathematical Thinking, is the gathering of facts to come to absolute answers without putting a person to it. Royall teaches that Mathematical Thinking eliminates the need for followers or leaders, since math is not a respecter of a person.

The U.N.O.I. also hosts regular "Civilization Classes", were students (members as well as guests) are taught how to treat themselves, everyone and everything right. In the U.N.O.I. it is taught that right is “that which can be proven”, so the Civilization Classes teach how to focus on the purpose of things, ideas, and interpersonal interactions and relationships. It is by operating within the purpose of a given idea, that one is able to meet with or produce success.
Temple meetings are held at all "Allah's Temple Academies" to give clarity and understanding to past, present and future events that relate to the Time and what must be done. These meetings are always free and open to the public, who are encouraged to attend. The focus on current events and how they relate to those who are in attendance , as well as the open invitation to ask questions for clarity on any subject of importance to the visitor, is the primary attraction of these meetings. This is also a main difference between how the U.N.O.I. presents its classes/meetings and other spiritual/political organizations do. Although public meetings are often referred to as “spiritual meetings”, members are quick to point out that the U.N.O.I. is not about religion. The emphasis on laws, principles and real life events (referred to as “scenarios”) keep the focus on the ideas being taught, rather than on any one person of historical/religious significance (including Royall, himself).
The U.N.O.I. also emphasizes that the greatest legacy that an adult can pass on to a child is knowledge and a place to practice it. This, as it is taught by the U.N.O.I., is the child’s inheritance. Because of the genuine concern for the community’s youth, children are another very important focus of these business entities. The young people who have participated in The Summer Youth Program for the last ten years serve as shining examples of this principle (inheritance) and are thankful because what they have learned has enhanced their quality of life. By learning how to think mathematically to produce absolute, accurate and positive results they have been given the ability to solve everyday problems. They have also learned through classes and hands-on training, Community Business Development, which is, the development, operation, maintenance, management and magnification of community related businesses.
The United Nation of Islam’s University is the educational system of the Nation. This system consists of a network of schools and extended classrooms around the Nation, and is the base of all motion which is carried on by and within the U.N.O.I. This schooling system is designed to address the needs of a people who have the will to operate from a standpoint of independence. The age range of the students active within the school itself is from 3 to 18 years of age, although it is stated by members of the U.N.O.I., that everyone who operates within the Nation does so from the standpoint of a student – because the whole effort and idea of The United Nation of Islam is the learning, growth and development of all who participate. The University is specifically established as a math, science and language centered educational experience. In the University, students “learn how to learn”, which, according to them, enables the students to become independent in their thoughts and motion, as well as produces civilized, thoughtful and responsible members of society, which, in turn, enhances the lives of everyone.

The Kansan, a local Kansas City, Kansas newspaper, wrote an editorial stating: “Doing "right" is its own reward. It's an interesting philosophy but the United Nation of Islam in Kansas City, Kan., it's more than a philosophy, it is an effective tactic that is producing some visible results. United Nation of Islam has a community model worthy of closer scrutiny.
Not even the hardest of cynics could deny that their clean shops, their dedicated volunteers and the businesses that are starting up are impressive. This is in an area that has been all but forgotten by investors and potential business operators. Members of the group are taught basic social graces, respect and discipline as well as problem solving and business development skills. These lessons are taught in "reality classrooms," which provide real-life experiences. To encourage children to realize their dreams and talents…”
Police Capt. Michael Kobe acknowledged the group's effect in the area, in an article by The Star (another Kansas City, KS newspaper). "They have made a great contribution to the community and the people that they serve," Kobe said. "They have made many positive contributions to the area, including economic. Overall, though, crime rates have dropped throughout the county the past six or seven years." |

UNOI hosts several call-in TV and radio programs across the United States. Royall appears regularly on these programs. In addition to Royalll tours various cities to speak and to answer questions. The UNOI also has frequent Mathematical Thinking Classes set up in numerous cities across the nation. These programs provide those that have the will to do so the opportunity to ask questions of, about, or to the representatives of the UNOI.
Critics of the UNOI allege that, inter alia, followers work as Royall's slaves in UNOI businesses, and receive no income—yet apply for and receive welfare from the government. It is also alleged that Royall has taken several wives from among his followers. Furthermore, critics point out that Royall—who claims to be God in the manner that Wallace Fard Muhammad and Clarence 13X had done before—is in no way educated, intelligent, or able to actually do math, speak foreign languages, or anything else that God should be able to do. Virtually everyone that is not a member of UNOI sees Royall as a scam artist who uses his followers for free labor, sex, and power.
