Virgin Nigeria was formed on 28th September 2004 when the Nigerian Government and Virgin Atlantic signed an agreement to establish a new airline for Nigeria to replace the liquidated Nigeria airways.Virgin Nigeria currently flies to four destinations from Lagos which include Abuja,Accra,London and Porthacourt.The airline is expected to increase its route network to nine by September.Possible routes to be added include Abidjan,Dubai,Jeddahand Johannesburg.The airline is still in talks with the US government after US authorities barred the airline from direct flights into the United States,reportedly citing Britain's anti-competitive aviation policy.In response to this,the Nigerian government banned US-based carrier,Continental which was due to begin operations into Nigeria at the second quarter of 2005
