Mariacha is a type of musical group, originally from Mexico, consisting of at least two violins, two trumpets, one Spanish guitar, one vihuela (a high-pitched, five-string guitar) and one Guitarrón (a small-scaled acoustic bass).
The mariachi members use a characteristic outfit, consisting of tight trousers, a short jacket, a large bowtie, boots, a wide belt and a remarkably big hat, called "sombrero". The mariachi outfit is also known as "charro" outfit.
Mariachi music has a unique sound, and it is widely used on weddings, birthday parties and even on proms. The mariachi tradition has been extended from Mexico to other countries - particularly Colombia.
