On another note...

... a few days ago I added Katherine Brooks (lesbian film director) to the requested articles heading at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject LGBT studies/to do short list - silly me, it's updated daily by your bot! Do you know where I can post this request so that it would feature there, or recommend anything else? Thanks! :D •97198 talk 05:53, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Small world...

Remeber yesterday when you left me a comment on my talk page? Well today I came across something I wanted to edit the Chris Crocker page but couldn't because of an edit dispute, and you are one of the people listed as commenting on it. :-) Misplaced Pages community feels really small today. :-) ZacBowling 23:07, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the biggest number of edits have been done anonymously because of fear of conflicts of interest with my employers since I'm in the public eye there and they would probably wouldn't want to be associated with some of the topics I edit here. :-) ZacBowling 23:41, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Are you the programmer a quick google search pulls up? -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 02:16, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

OK, Ref 10 did check out, in spite of what the anon said. So we've checked and fixed everything he crabbed about. Think we need to check them all? Jeffpw (talk) 23:23, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

I deleted that section from our LGBT talk page, since the anon IP checks out as the same one who has been stalking Benjiboi. See Talk:Hot House Entertainment#2007 David Awards to match the IP addy. If you think I did wrong to delete the discussion from a stalker, please feel free to revert me. Jeffpw (talk) 00:05, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Project Paranormal bot

An chance that you could put the Project Paranormal bot back online as it was a really useful tool. The project was so much the better for having it. - perfectblue (talk) 12:21, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Papazón

Hmmm, I can't seem to find anything either. Let me try to ping some Mexican users from the Spanish project, see if they can shed any light on this one. Cheers! ;-) Raystorm (¿Sí?) 13:12, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Violence against LGBT people

Just in time to improve the holiday spirit for the LGBT community. I just added this: Gay bashing increased to 16% in 2006, from 14% in 2005. See: The FBI crime report for 2006 that just came out last week in Violence against LGBT people. But the reason for this comment is that the whole article seems to need additional sourcing, although it's not tagged. Where do I place such an article that doesn't appear to have quite the right category in our TO-DO list, since it's has some citations, rather than none. If it was just a few, I would add them myself, but it looks like a lot of work is needed and will take too much time for one person. Or am I wrong? And should this comment have been posted on the project talk page? Still feeling my way around in the dark. :-) Comments and suggestions always welcome, BTW. Happy belated Thanksgiving. — Becksguy (talk) 03:51, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

How about {{refimprove}} or {{refimprovesect}}? --Orange Mike | Talk 03:54, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Just what I was going to suggest, Orangemike! SatyrBot reviews all articles with our banner on them and creates the "to do list" from there, so if you add {{unreferenced}}, {{refimprove}}, {{unreferenced-sect}}, or {{refimprovesect}}, the article will show up on our list. Take a look at WP:TC for an idea of what templates say what.
BTW, congrats, OM - aren't you a mop holder now? If you ever want a fancy mop and bucket let me know :) -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 04:05, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm not eligible, I don't think; friend of the community, but not a member (what was called "wise", pre-Stonewall). --Orange Mike | Talk 04:09, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Don't be silly! Anyone can wear orange, right? And who wouldn't love a gem-encrusted bucket!?!? LOL! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 04:11, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

OK, done. I see that {{refimprove}} tag with the tl prefix is a bit easier than using the html nowiki tag in comments. I also see that other's have SatyrTN's talk page watched. Hmmmm.... Me too, including several other editors where the action seems to happen. Yes, the LGBT group's talk page also. Blue is my favorite color, but orange is great, and my next favorite. I just looked at the glitter bucket image, and I'm having second thoughts now.... JK. — Becksguy (talk) 05:21, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

That has to be the gayest bucket ever! -- ALLSTARecho 05:26, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Second thoughts about what - your favorite color? To be fair, only one person has ever been given the Rainbow Mop and Glitter Bucket...  :) -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 05:30, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Oh my god, Satyr! That mop and bucket are almost enough to make me want to be an admin...almost. If you throw in a tiara, I just might be persuaded. Jeffpw (talk) 05:31, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
You know, when I made those, I really wanted to add a tiara - something like this one would be lovely as an admin, don't you think? -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 05:35, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

SatyrBot idea

I just stumbled across User:SatyrBot/WikiProject to do lists, and it would be helpful to be able to add redirects and deleted articles to your list. I've run across a few instances where an article is deleted and merged/redirected, but the WikiProject banner remains on the talk page, falsely adding one to the Stub-Class count. It would be useful to have the ability to quickly identify such pages so the banners can be removed. Pagrashtak 20:09, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Ah hah - that *is* a good idea! I'll do some testing tonight and try to add that to it's functions. Many thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 20:13, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Excellent, looking forward to it. Pagrashtak 20:35, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Illinois geoboxes

The boxes are not rendering properly, for example, the dot for McCullom Lake, Illinois is not located in Illinois at all. RyanGerbil10(Говорить!) 22:06, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

I will echo the sentiment Brooklyn, Illinois is about 30 miles south of where it should be. I have used the geoboxes on other states and they are pretty accurate. I suspect the base map is not calibrated correctly. Americasroof (talk) 22:22, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks - I've alerted the member of the WikiProject that's been working with me and will leave a message on the project talk page. I also suspect the map calibration, but I'm checking to make sure. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 22:24, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
One other note: zip code and area code came over as XXX. While that might be accurate for Brooklyn which has a reputation of more porn stores than residents, I don't think that's probably what was intended ;-). Americasroof (talk) 23:09, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks - it was actually intended :) See User:SatyrBot/Current project for our discussion on that. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 23:21, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
In the for what it's worth department, I replaced "Illinois - outline map.svg" and "Illinois - background map.png" with the standard Illinois Locator Map.PNG and it works fine. I quite frankly that the .svg and background map looked sorta ugly and not the usual pretty wikipedia official pastels. And for good measure, I'm not entirely certain why there's a geobox crawling some locations and an infobox settlement crawling others. Thanks again. Americasroof (talk) 23:11, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Because everything is still in the works, we are in the process of changing stuff over if you would have just been patient. Anyways, Satyr, Dual responded to your question on the Illinois Project. Something was wrong with the maps, so if you could change them how Dual said, then we should have the GPS stuff fixed. Be back later, thanks.--Kranar drogin (talk) 00:56, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Templates as content

That is actually a rather recent addition (November 14) that doesn't seem to have really been discussed anywhere. I have removed it for the time being, if only so it can be properly discussed. Circeus (talk) 21:00, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

While it does remove the necessity for an actual template, the transclusion is still present and give that this form is rarer than template, this scheme is likely to be more confusing to those that never saw it (which is why, although I knew about it, I did not suggest that technique). Also, slashes do not create subpages in articlespace: "List of gay, lesbian or bisexual people/lede" is an article just like "List of gay, lesbian or bisexual people: Sa-Sc" is! You could possibly try transcluding List of gay, lesbian or bisexual people itself, with the help of <noinclude> and <onlyinclude>, but that is still pretty much the same can of worm. Circeus (talk) 21:53, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
In short, the only thing it changes is transcluding from Articlespace instead of the template namespace. All other problems are still present, and new ones show up. Circeus (talk) 16:56, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Actually transclusion of content form mainspace is a) confusing to new and old editors alike, b) an arcane aspect of wikitext, c) addition of extra, unnecessary barriers to editing. It is also easier to break several pages by poor/accidental edition of the inclusion tags in the main list.
The main reason templates are used are either because the wikitext is overly long for the visible result (cf. the national sports team template, and the flag or language icons) or contains a lot of complex wikicode (cf. navigational templates and infoboxes), and content templates do not help with either of these aspects, in addition to creating a host of new concerns. Circeus (talk) 20:56, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
How about we copy this (appropriately reformatted) discussion to a Misplaced Pages:Centralized discussion and post requests for input in appropriate places? Circeus (talk) 21:19, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

The Spell

Why the columns in the character section? I think it looks confusing...Is that standard?Zigzig20s (talk) 22:39, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Anywhere there's a list in an article longer than, say, 10 lines, I find columns makes the article more compact and removes the "white space" from the right-hand side. It's not necessary (or recommended for or against, as far as I know), but I like it :) Feel free to remove if you want - no problem. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 22:42, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Charles Wuorinen

I happened to see your query on Choess's talk, I have access to the online Grove, and there doesn't seem to be anything in there that's relevant. It's not impossible that the hard-copy contains additional material however. David Underdown (talk) 10:54, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi, David - thanks for your help! The reason I asked about it is because he's listed in this article, which purports to be "he unexpurgated full-length original of the New Grove II article, edited by Carlos Palombini". He's just listed in passing as a "gay musician", but I've been unable to find anything to corroborate that. I was hoping there was something in the New Grove like a full chapter on "LGBT Music" or maybe something in Wuorinen's bio about his partner. Thanks for your help! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 15:07, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
From a very quick look at the content, it seems entirely probable that the article you mention above is indeed the original/full-length one. I simply searched for the first occurence of Wuorinen in that, and found the equivalent passage in the Grove article, which reads," It will be objected that in many cases a ‘straight’ equivalent may be found. But a list of this kind, which could easily be expanded, shows not only how very considerable the homosexual presence has been in 20th-century Western music but also prompts questions as to how and why, in the post-Freudian age, a basic element of subjectivity could have been so little examined in relation to music, or why that relation should have been so obsessively denied." As you will be able to see, the wording is basically identical, but the "expanded list" itself is not given.
I've now done a full-text search of Grove for "Wuorinen", and they doesn't seem to be a mention of a partner anywhere. David Underdown 16:01, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Sigh. :) Your help is much appreciated!!!! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 16:02, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Benito Papazón

It's a hoax. It has already been deleted in es:wiki. Cheers! Raystorm (¿Sí?) 11:50, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

It was speedy. It's a play on words, which in English would be something like Come and play with my d***, big daddy. I didn't see it before because I didn't know the second name used was Carmelo, but honestly, once someone pointed it out, it was beyond obvious. Benito Carmelo Papazón -> Ven y tócamelo , Papazón. Any admin with a grasp of Spanish will get it. Plus we couldn't get a single ref which connected that name with the Dance of the 41. Pretty clear case. ;-) Cheers Raystorm (¿Sí?) 19:34, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Edward Onslow

I'm afraid I don't have access to the full text of the Dictionary of Music and Musicians. However, a Google Books search on "Edward Onslow" and "homosexual" will reveal a snippet from that book confirming that he was involved in a sex scandal. (It appears to have involved indecent assault on one Phelim Macarty, Esq., but I haven't been able to dig up a full enough text to give more details.) Choess 18:23, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
