Coconut rice is a dish prepared by cooking white rice in coconut milk. As both the coconut and the rice-plant are indigenous in places all-around the world, coconut rice too is found in many cultures throughout the world (spanning across the equator from the caribbean to southeast-Asia).
Varieties
Colombia, Venezuela and Puerto Rico
Off the Caribbean coast of Colombia and Venezuela and also in Puerto Rico, Arroz con coco is a typical side dish. It is made from white rice cooked in a base of coconut milk (from green coconuts) and combined with water, salt, and sugar.
Indonesia
In Indonesia, plain coconut rice is made from white rice, coconut milk, ginger, fenugreek seed, and pandan leaves.
