Quote mark in reference names
Re this change: It's not necessary to quote reference names; the Wikimedia software quotes them properly for HTML even if we don't. I prefer omitting the quotes to make pages smaller and more readable, but it's no big deal. Similarly, I prefer not giving references names if the references are used only once, again, no big deal. Eubulides (talk) 10:27, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Is there policy on this? QuackGuru (talk) 10:32, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Misplaced Pages:Footnotes#Naming a ref tag so it can be used more than once says "The ref name need not be placed within quotes unless it consists of more than one word (the wiki parser converts single word quoteless attribute values into validly quoted XHTML)." It also says "One should be particularly careful when deleting a named reference with text content, because the footnote text will be deleted unless it is copied to another ref tag with the same name"; this is another argument for not giving a reference a name if it doesn't need one. Confession
Dear QuackGuru,
I have a confession to make. (Note also an additional reply from me to you on my talk page.) Well, it's not that I've done anything wrong (at least from my POV), but I think you deserve to know something about me before we really get started so that you won't jump to conclusions and expect me to be something I'm not or trust me to do something I never had any intention of doing.
I'm a scientist (that's not the confession. Wait.), as declared in a userbox on my userpage, and I often tend to think like a scientist (or more so perhaps, like a mathematician). I try to edit articles to conform to the WP:NPOV policy and to have reliable citations. When we're both focussing on doing that, we might find that we're often agreeing and working together.
However, (wait for it) I also have personal opinions, beliefs and values. We're all individuals, and what appears to be neutral to one person often appears to be biassed in one direction or another by a person with a different POV. In the interests of neutrality, I tend not to declare my personal beliefs here other than pretty much opinions about what a particular article should or should not say and why, but in this case I think you deserve a bit of information, so here goes. (This is it.) Please don't be surprised if you and I often find ourselves on opposite sides of content disputes.
Friendly regards, --Coppertwig (talk) 13:28, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Blocked
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 48 hours in accordance with Misplaced Pages's blocking policy for disruption of an AfD by email canvassing and making misleading accusations. Please stop. You're welcome to make useful contributions after the block expires. If you believe this block is unjustified you may contest this block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below. MastCell 18:37, 13 February 2008 (UTC)There are a couple of problems here. One is that you've apparently canvassed participation via email for Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Chiropractic care: Research and Criticism. To make matters worse, you accused another editor of canvassing by using cherry-picking diffs - an attempt at misrepresentation which looks all the worse given that you've apparently been engaged in actual stealth canvassing all the while. I've blocked you for 48 hours for disruptive conduct at this AfD; I would urge you to consider whether your global approach to these controversial topics is constructive. I've posted the block to WP:AN/I for comment and review; you are of course welcome to appeal it by the usual means. MastCell 18:40, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).QuackGuru (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
This block is unjustified. I did not canvass for votes. I did not tell people to vote. I did not cherry pick editors. I gave good examples. QuackGuru (talk) 18:45, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Decline reason:
The block seems very justified to me. Your behavior has been disruptive. Mangojuice 18:59, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
