The Republic of Kosovo (Template:Lang-sq, Template:Lang-sr), commonly referred to as Kosovo (Template:Lang-sq or Kosovë; Template:Lang-sr; see also Names of Kosovo), is a self-declared, partially recognized state in the Balkans, claiming the Kosovo region as its territory since the February 2008 declaration of independence issued by the Provisional Institutions of Self-Government, an assembly under the United Nations Mission in Kosovo. The declaration received varied reactions from the international community and was strongly opposed by Serbia.
