Tri-Edge (トライエイジ, Toraiejji) is a legendary Player Killer in the .hack series. It is said that players PK'd by Tri-Edge never log back in. These victims, along with any whom encounter AIDA and are exposed, are known as "The Lost Ones". He leaves a triple pronged sign at the location where he has defeated his victims. Thus, the name.

Identity

In .hack//G.U., the name "Tri-Edge" has been used to refer to three distinct entities. This misconception was called "The Great Deception" by the series creators. The three characters are:

  • Azure Kite - At first mistaken for Tri-Edge, Azure Kite is a mysterious and extremely powerful character shrouded in blue fire whom appears in both the .hack//Roots anime series and the .hack//G.U. games. He has the same character design as Kite, though it seems to be "stitched" together, and altogether more "evil" looking. In .hack//G.U. Vol 2 it's revealed that he's not Tri-Edge. He wields a Twin-Blade weapon named Empty Skies that has three blades per sword, not to mention the fact that he can put players into comas, much like the character that Aura based him off of, thus the confusion. Natsume thinks that Tri-Edge is a weapon as well, and hunts for it obsessivly, PKing anyone in her way.
  • Ovan - He is an eccentric character whom not much is known about outside his former guild, the Twilight Brigade. During the .hack//Roots series, he appears to have a close relationship with Shino. Shino indicates that she knows him in real life, outside The World MMORPG, as well. Phyllo, an elderly male acquintance of Shino's who plays as a Harvest Cleric in The World R:2, says that he should have never introduced Shino to Ovan. As revealed in .hack//G.U. Vol 2, the real Tri-Edge is him as the three scar signs, known as Sign, is not truly made by Azure Kite but Ovan himself.
  • AIDA<Tri-Edge> - The real Tri-Edge is in fact, not a player at all. Tri-Edge is composed of AIDA that attacked and infected Ovan. The AIDA is located in Ovan's left arm. Due to the fact that all AIDA are connected, when AIDA<Tri-Edge> became hostile, the rest of the AIDA followed. Tri-Edge is sentient and sometimes possesses Ovan's body, even saying to Ovan "That's right, I'm the one that made your sister a Lost One." to taunt him. Along with AIDA confined in his left arm, is his Avatar, Corbenik, whom is uncontrolled.
