The hogtie, in the practice of sexual bondage for which it is most commonly known, typically has the person who is being tied lie down flat on the belly, with the ankles and wrists tied together behind the back of the person. The hogtie used on pigs and cattle has the limbs tied in front.

There is a significant risk of postural asphyxia in this position, in addition to the normal risks of restraint. In addition, tying anything around the neck has a high risk of death from strangulation.
