I do see that you have made positive contributions. I also see that you have a love of Norfolk, which can only be a good thing. These things were never in question. My attitude is that Misplaced Pages should be as good as it can be, and that includes adhering to MoS formatting guidelines, proper referencing, and correct use of English. It is for these reasons that I have eebn trawling through your back catalogue as, while you are an enthusiastic contributor, your edits often could benefit from a second pair of eyes. Please do not think this is personal; rather, use my corrections as hints about what you could improve on in future. Pyrope 10:20, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

River infobox

Hi Stavros. Perfectly good (in fact, pretty advanced) infoboxes already exist for rivers. The older {{Geobox River}} is fairly widely used (see it at River Thames, for instance) but has been superceeded by the newer, generic Geobox2 template. This is adapted to fit a river using the template pro formae located at {{Geobox/type/river}}. To use the template just cut and paste the appropriate blank form (metric or imperial) into the article that you want to edit, then fill in the blanks (not forgetting to reference the information!). Hope that helps. Pyrope 12:07, 24 October 2007 (UTC) Hi Pyrop Thanks for the InformationStavros1 17:38, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Cromer article

Thanks for your articles, particulary the Norfolk ones. Can you help? Please check the Cromer article concerning the cultivation of opium poppies. I tagged it and then deleted the reference, but it has been reinstated. The only poppies I see growing in this area are the common field poppies. Can you shed some light on these mysterious plants ? Cheers Northmetpit (talk) 10:54, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Re . Cromer article

Hi Stavros1. Yes that's strange that someone deleted that piece of nonsense after I mentioned it.Going onto Wright's Flour Mill,I will try to take some photos of the mill, when I visit the area. Thanks for the reply Northmetpit (talk) 11:29, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Mansell's taxi image

Nice one! Cracking image that, and thanks for the edit summary namecheck, sweet. I was wondering if you would mind me transferring it to Commons. I know that there are dedicated motorsport editors at other language Wikis who would love to use that? Pyrope 13:59, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

I've stood on the terraces at Silverstone plenty of times myself, and I know exactly what you mean about getting a good photo. That really is a moment of history though, you did tremendously well to get such a clear shot! If it were my photo I'd have a copy framed on my desk! ;-) Pyrope 15:33, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
FYI, the image is now also located at Image:Mansell and Senna at Silverstone.jpg. Now expect to see it pop up all over the place! Pyrope 15:56, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Coordinates

Have correct Gimmingham Trunch Sustead coordinates and added cords to Upper Sheringham.

Re: Get your facts right

I never did accuse you of plagiariam! What I wrote, and I quote, was "In fact, the vast bulk of this article is copied from there". Rreading it again, I can see that I've suggested things the wrong way round and this should have been clearer. Whatever, the point is that the war memorial is at present adequately covered in West Runton and unless there is something especially notable about this particular memorial it does not deserve its own article. It is, of course, up to you to demonstrate that this is the case (and if you do I will support you), but you have not done so yet. Emeraude (talk) 13:33, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Wind Farms

Hi, Stavros. Thank you for your message. Usually, articles should not be in both a category and its subcategory. In case of wind farms in the United Kingdom, the correct category is Wind farms in the United Kingdom. Categories like Energy in the United Kingdom, Wind farms; Wind power; Alternative energy etc are parent (upper level) categories for the category:Wind farms in the United Kingdom, and therefore should not to be added, so I would like to ask you to revert restoring these categories. For more information and guidelines, please see WP:CAT. Regards, Beagel (talk) 16:51, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:BBC Ballon over Cley.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:BBC Ballon over Cley.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Misplaced Pages constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Windmills

Hi, I noticed you are creating windmill articles. Trestle goes to the article about bridges, so I have created Trestle (mill) for use with windmills - covers both Post and Trestle mills. Mjroots (talk) 17:33, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Tesco's proposed store Sheringham

Hi. Thanks for your edit. I thought this long running saga was important enough to add to the article. But someone felt otherwise-they seem quick to delete edits without adding anything of their own. Cheers Northmetpit (talk) 15:52, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Image:Indian Runner Duck.jpg

Hi Stavros1, I've replaced this image in the article with a photo from Commons. It's currently unused therefore. Anyway, could you please add information about the source and the author to the file's description page? The image could be moved to the appropriate gallery then (that is impossible right now because it's not clear that the artist died more than 70 years ago). Many thanks --:bdk: 20:29, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Time

Hi Stavros1, See you have added time icon to your user page, wonder where you got that from? Like you I found it on someone's user page but could not find how to change to BST or UCT +1 any ideas? here is the template for currenttime Template:Currenttime. Thank you

Hi Stravros1. Thank you for the Barnstar, most kind. I will try to check out the Cromer Pier in the media information you gave me. Did you check out the exterior link I added to pier article? Cheers Northmetpit (talk) 09:50, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

War and Commons

After our discussion back in December about the West Runton War Memorial I kept seeing war memorials. I put together this collection of war memorial photos. At last I have got round to telling you about it.

Have you encountered the Roll of Honour website? They already have Sheringham. But if you were to offer to do West Runton for them, you would probably receive a very different reception from what you received here!

You appear to have had a brief period in March when you were doing image uploads to the Commons. Why have you reverted? Whenever copyright allows, please do all uploads to the Commons. Transferring your existing images would be a boring job - leave that to those who are keen - see the newly started WP:CUC. But at least you can avoid adding any more images here.

Two other small points:

  • with images from Geograph, please always use the {{Geograph}} tag
  • the words "digital photograph" in every description are rather quaint - and totally unneccessary - who else uses them?

Here are some bits you may care to add to your user page:

My image uploads to: the Commons and en.Misplaced Pages.

The following were transferred from en.wikipedia to the Commons by ANOther and so are not listed by Daniel's tool:

Comment

Don't agree with your group's opion and do not wish to discuss it with you as previouse communications have been a waste of time.

I disagree with a lot of Misplaced Pages's policy, but at the end of the day I accept that it is a community project so some flexibility is required from everybody. I am not a representative of the UK Roads Project, merely an independent participant. I would be grateful if you would have the civility to at least provide a response to me (either here or on your my talk page), and not acting so immaturely as to delete another editor's valid comments simply because you disagree with them.  — MapsMan  — 16:14, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your comment. As you can see, I have not re-added the template further, as you wish. All I wanted was to enter into sensible debate, rather than you simply removing the template again and again. As it stands, up until now I had not been in debate with you, save your remarks in the edit summary. Whatever discussions you had with other editors, I was not party to. Please do not confuse me with a project I happen to be a member of.
I agree that putting on the template and doing nothing is not a viable option: what other action can you suggest? I personally think that the information contained within the route descriptions is useful, but I believe it can be presented in a better way. Maybe even if the same text was presented as a bullet point so that the overall route could be quickly scanned by the reader to get to the part of the road they want to find out information about. Editing the A57 road article today, I found it difficult indeed locating the part of the article I needed to change, both on-screen and in the edit box. If not a bullet list, then maybe a table with the left hand column containing a route section (A-B, B-C, C-D), then in the right hand side a description of about half a dozen lines for that section. Obviously the route would need to be divided up into sections accordingly, or descriptions perhaps kept a little more brief.  — MapsMan  — 19:37, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks - I'm glad we've managed to resolve this. I've an idea: what I'll do is incorporate the route information into a table. I'll draft something up in a sandbox. I think I'll use A10 road as it's a road I'm sure both of us will know something about and therefore be in a position to decide whether it fits the job of an encyclopaedia. Riddings Windmills

Do you know of anything that can be added to Riddings on the subject of the two tower windmills? There must be an interesting story there, but I've never come across anything about it.Ning-ning (talk) 13:03, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

East Anglian Windmills

Hi, would you mind if I were to create separate templates for each county, much as I've done for Template:Kent Windmills, Template:Sussex Windmills, Template:Surrey Windmills and Template:London Windmills? The East Anglian one would in time become obsolete. Mjroots (talk) 20:18, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I'll start with the Essex template, and then do Suffol and Norfolk as I work my way up. This won't be a quick process as I have an impending Wikibreak due to moving house soon. I won't remove the East Anglian template until all new counties have been created. You are welcome to adapt the existing templates yourself if you want to do some yourself. Mjroots (talk) 18:47, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Only the Norwich windmills and the millwrights on the Norfolk Mills website are my work, the rest of the credit goes to Jonathan. Mjroots (talk) 18:53, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Windmills template

Put this in your sandbox:-

{{Navbox |name = Norfolk Windmills |title=Norfolk Windmills |group1=Surviving post mills |list1= ] • ] • |group2=Surviving smock mills |list2=] • ] • |group3=Surviving tower mills |list3= ] • ] • |group4=Surviving Drainage windmills |list4= |below= ] }}<noinclude> <includeonly>]</includeonly><noinclude>] </noinclude>

You can work on it there, and create it once complete. Mjroots (talk) 19:27, 22 May 2008 (UTC) You'd better open the edit box to copy it, the Nowiki has destroyed the formatting. Mjroots (talk) 19:28, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi; I've moved this to Talk:A10 road/Sandbox because subpages don't work in article space. Powers 20:13, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Wright's Flour Mill

Hi Stavros1. You expressed an interest in the above mill. I visited the area recently and took some photos, very difficult to gain access to the premises. Anyway the images give you an idea of the place No1, No2, No3, No4. Cheers Northmetpit (talk) 13:07, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

re: Fort Hommet 10.5 cm Coastal Defence Gun Casement Bunker

Hi, At the time I tagged the article it consisted of a single line of text reading "Fort Hommet 10.5 cm Coastal Defence Gun Casement Bunker is a fully restored Gun Casement that was part of Fortress Guernsey constructed by the forces of Nazi Germany between 1940 and 1945" and no references which attested to notability at all. As such, it provided no indication of notability such as it being unique. Please don't get cranky when people tag articles, but assume good faith and take the comment on board. It's also not advisable to start one line articles which make no claim to notability and provide no references as these can be speedy deleted by admins (I'm an admin, but am a military history specialist so gave this the benefit of the doubt). Nick Dowling (talk) 09:27, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

  • Hi Stavros1, I actually think he was trigger happy, made a mistake and missed the construction tag. Regards--palmiped |  Talk  16:04, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

non-free image uploads

Hi, you seem to have uploaded a few images of logos and UK road signs with {{pd-self}} and {{GFDL}} licensing templates. I'm afraid most logos are protected by copyright, and all UK road signs are covered by Crown copyright, so they should be tagged {{Non-free logo}} or {{Non-free Crown copyright}} instead. Please work through the following list and change the licensing information. Thanks! -- Sakurambo 桜ん坊 12:11, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi, me again. Just to clarify, edits like this one where you changed the licensing of the National Trust logo from {{PD-self}} to {{PD-ineligible}} aren't going to help things. The National Trust logo belongs to the National Trust. You don't own the copyright on this logo, and it isn't in the public domain. Sorry :-( -- Sakurambo 桜ん坊 22:00, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

SS Cantabria

Hi Stavros1, Page 13 of `The Ship-wrecks off North Norfolk` Ayer Tikus Publications says it was the Cuidad de Valenccia that attacked the Cantabria even though some reports said it was the Nadir, it does say that both may be correct and they may be one and the same vessel. This book also says she was on route to Sunderland & not Immingham. Regards --palmiped |  Talk  19:58, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Moved to commons,

If you could file a note to the permissions queue at OTRS as well it would be helpful :) Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:19, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

No problem exists :) , because the image is under a 'free' license it has been moved to Wikimedia Commons, a repositry for free images so that other Wikimedia projects can make use of it as well as English Misplaced Pages.

The suggestion to file a note with the permissions queue was made in good faith, and was suggested to stop cruasding zealots out to eleminate any image whose (C) status they are 'personally' uncomfortable with :) Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:19, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Stubb Drainage Mill

Hi Stavros

I note that you have added the Stubb drainage mill to Sir Berney Brograve's page as being built by him, but on your Stubb drainage mill page you have it built by his son Sir George. I don't know which is correct either! Cheers. Brograve (talk) 23:04, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

B Roads

Greetings User:stavros1.

If you read the history at B1436 and B1156 you will clearly see that the redirects were put in place by User:Saga City and 217.36.107.9.

They appear to be waging a war of attrition against B Road articles in general (including the B1159 road in which I have a particular interest) and have recently succeeded in having deleted Template:GB B road zone 1.

-Arb. (talk) 19:54, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

I may be maligning User:Saga City. You seem to have recently moved these two roads from "road" to "Road" but your message to me linked "road". Having twigged this, B1436 Road (capital R) appears to have been redirected by 217.36.107.9 - check its history. B1436 road (small r) is still redirected to B roads in Zone 1 of the Great Britain numbering scheme btw. -Arb. (talk) 20:13, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Kingdom pics

A user called Sam Knox uploaded the same images to Flickr last year (). Since then s/he has uploaded several more images of Stephen Fry and Norfolk locations. I think we can assume good faith and presume that it is the same person sharing their free images. Since the user hasn't made many edits it might be ideal to get an OTRS email confirmation that s/he is the true photographer. I wouldn't know how to do that though. :D Bradley0110 (talk) 18:38, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Additionally, that Swaffam tie-in website went up to coincide with the second series in January, after the photos were uploaded here. I think it safe to assume they took the images from here, rather than the other way around. Bradley0110 (talk) 18:41, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
