Thank you

Hi Banes, why thank you, I would love to be an administrator but no one nominated me yet. I have noticed four other wikipedians who also deserve to be administrators and would gladly support them if asked (Impi, Elf-friend, Pall and Wizzy). I have also noticed that you part of Esperanza. I think it is a good cause. --Jcw69 17:32, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

If you want to be the first South African administrator then I will gladly support you. :-) I came across stress levels some time back but because I have been busy with other things during the last month I did not notice Esperanza. I only noticed it today from your talk page and would like to sign up but will wait until after the voting.--Jcw69 18:25, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
Yes I see your point but when I joined there wasn't much from a South African point of view so I concentrated mainly on Africa (especially South Africa) anyway you could have a look at the users I mentioned above although one of them is not South African. --Jcw69 18:47, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi, yes you can go ahead and nominate me between 18:00 and 20:30. Is time very important?--Jcw69 19:25, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

Sorry Banes, the Telkom exchange went down just after 7pm. After been on the phone to them until way after 10pm they only sent someone out this morning to see what the problem was. It only went up at 1pm today. Anyway thank you for the nomination, I hope by accepting abit late does not effect my chances.
Okay, I have answered all the questions, not easy when you have to sell yourself with three questions. When does it move onto the main voting area?

--Jcw69 16:36, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

Yes I won't forget about my ardent supporters, lol - you starting to sound like a campaign manger. Keep up the good work. --Jcw69 18:23, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
I have not seen Elf-friend around for some time, but I will try get hold of him somehow. I am trying to drum up some support--Jcw69 18:37, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

Admin nomination

I haven't ever nominated anyone but you can follow this link: and it will take you to the instructions on how. Not that you planned on nominating me, but I'm currently not interested. I have you bookmarked so I see your edits all the time and after a few more months of contributions I may nominate you though! Participate in Afd, article editing, RC Patrol and what not as you have been and you'll be one of my prime choices. I have your "killer rabbit" image as one of my backgrounds on my computer...funny image!

Thanks on the RfA!

WPfD and Such

Ah yes, I remember that now. What a mess. It was sad to see what happened to Agriculture there, but in the end, i'm glad everything turned out ok there, that had the potential to get even uglier with time. Ultimately, the best thing I thought I could do there was update the vote count, so that's what I tried to focus on -- believe it or not, despite how it may seem, I have a bad temper; a trait that I loathe in myself and try desperately to change on a continuing basis.
I almost lost it again with this Fadix thing, but I figured the best thing to do was to leave a diplomatic sounding message on his talk page since i'm getting the adminship anyway and not make it any worse. Me and Coolcat got a laugh out of what transpired on IRC this morning.
Now if I can just get the Tony Sidaway thing under control, i'll be all set. Karmafist 21:37, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Banes, thank you very much for your vote of confidence in my bid to become one of the first members of the Esperanza Advisory Committee. Even though the elections not finished, and the final results are still out, I would like you to know that I appreciate your support, and look forward to working together in making Misplaced Pages a better place to work and edit. Cheers, Bratsche 18:18, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

No problem! Thanks for your vote of confidence, by the way. Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 21:39, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Wow, that is a huge compliment, being listed on your user page. You've honored me, and made my day. I hope that I will be able to stand up and work hard with you in the future. Thanks a lot, Bratsche 03:27, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

Perfectly percolated coffee, Esperanza's own blend.

Regarding your Esperanza notice saying that users should tell you of their acts of kindness, and compliment you on being an election worker. Well, I spent a lot of time recently welcoming newcomers, which you can probably confirm on my contributions. Oh, and you're a wonderful election worker. Have some coffee! Banes,

I have expanded the article so that it is no longer a stub. I would be grateful if you could have a look. Capitalistroadster 10:59, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your support on my RfA!

Thanks for your support of my adminship!! I was surprised at the turnout and support I got! If you ever have any issues with any of my actions, please notify me on my talk page! Thanks again! Ryan Norton 04:09, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

Edit summary calculation

I do something like , and copy/paste the results into a spreadsheet I have that supports the nominee charts I do. I frequently do this even when I'm not going to make a chart just to see the usage of edit summaries and average edits per day. Since it's an automatic generation (I actually copy the data, then click a button on the spreadsheet, and it does the rest), it's quick and easy to do. --Durin 20:25, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

Advisory Committee

OMG A COOKIE

Banes, thank you so much for electing me to the Advisory Committee. And since you were the first one to vote for me, you get a cookie. :P Acetic' 20:25, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

Esperanza Spam

Hello Esperanzians! A few announcements.

The Advisory Committee election results are in. In tranch A are Acetic Acid and Flcelloguy. In tranch B are Ryan Norton and Bratsche.

My other annoouncement is that our founder, JCarriker, has founded Esperanza's sister project, Wikipediology. I have written two essays here (my name is Matt Binder). My essays are under Teenage Wikipedians and Anon Editors.

On behalf of myself and Jay Carriker and the other wikipediologists, I would appreciate it if you were to join.

Cheers Esperanza! Redwolf24 (talkHow's my driving?) 23:28, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

Elf-friend

I noticed you were asking about Elf-friend's non-appearance at Jcw69's admin nomination vote. Unfortunately, Elf-friend hasn't edited since March, when he suddenly disappeared without notice. I didn't know him outside Misplaced Pages, and he never enabled the "email this user option", so I haven't been able to contact him to find out what happened. I just hope it was nothing bad, and that he's just on a Wiki-holiday and will return sometime, as he was a pretty prolific editor. Anyway, just thought I'd give you the heads up on the reason for his silence. Impi 01:12, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

Impi is correct about the reason for my long silence ... I was a bit "gatvol" about a number of issues on Misplaced Pages (mostly systemic bias and granularity) and decided to take a long (7 months!) Wikiholiday. Outside of Misplaced Pages my life is just fine :-). I'm sorry to see you are stressed at the moment and hope things will improve soon. Elf-friend 12:22, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for your kind words and your offer. Fortuitously, my first login after my Wikiholiday was on the last day of voting for Jcw's adminship, so at least I was able to add my vote to his well-deserved election. Yes, I would be interested in becoming an admin in the future, it would certainly help in fighting vandals ("manual" reverting is a bit tiresome). But mark my words, my long absence from Misplaced Pages will be held against me by some of the voters. Elf-friend 14:17, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

Celestianpower is an admin

My compadrial Esperanzian! Thank you very much for your support - my bid (as you probably know) went swimmingly. I couldn't have asked for a better one. Thank you very much and I just hope I don't mess up! See you on the esperanza IRC soon, yeah? --Celestianpower 13:05, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

RE: Admin

First, let me say that it's unfortunate to hear you've got a lot of stress in your life...believe me, I know how that can be... You'll notice I haven't been around much lately, mostly for the same reason (although there's a matter of a new woman in my life too, which has been taking up a little bit of my time ) ... As far as the question about whether or not I've been nominated for Admin, the answer is "no", although a few people have offered to do so. I'm not sure how useful I'm going to be as an admin between now and December , but I'm not opposed to being nominated...God knows the extra buttons would be nice sometimes!

Anyways, I hope you get your situation sorted out, and hopefully you'll be all better and back before you realize you were gone. If you need to talk to someone, email me and I'll let you know how to get in touch. Tomer 21:07, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

re:Picture

The picture on my userpage of St Mary Lake is free use, as are all the images I upload... that picture was here before I was as I think I pulled it out of a wiki article....so no problem, use as you please! The view shown in that picture is one of the most photographed viwpoints in all the National Parks in the U.S....it's close to the ones you may have seen of Yosemite National Park, in terms of number of times it has been photographed. Have a good day!--MONGO 18:12, 19 October 2005 (UTC)

Tomf688 RFA vote

I'm trying to make sure that I take the time to thank everyone who voted in my RfA, and verify that they don't have any concerns over my experience, neutrality, etc. If you have a problem, please drop a line on my talk page and I will answer it as best as I can. Concerns

I appreciate your concerns and your honesty. However, I have responded to some of the comments that were listed above in opposition ]. Thank you, a.n.o.n.y.m 11:22, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

Thank you. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Also I would like to just point out that two of the editors who voted against me are biased against all Muslim editors, I am sorry to say. The other person who voted against me had perfectly valid reasons about a 3rr in my first week of wikipedia. As for the one who wrote a large paragraph on me, I don't know them and why they voted against me, since they only have been here 2 weeks (and a month after my disputes with two editors on "India-related" articles were settled). I can only assume that they might be a sockpuppet, but I am not going to speculate. I still like to thank you replying to my message. I expect a lot of oppose votes in the future, though, because the first oppose voter posted material on a wikiproject trying to rally support against me, which seems unfair. However, I will let wikipedians decide. :) Thank you, a.n.o.n.y.m 11:33, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

Stressed out?

Hi Banes. Thanks for your note! Yes, I am quite stressed, but it is due to volume of real-life work rather than any Misplaced Pages issue. I am looking forward to my stress going down, but it may only happen at the end of term. :-) The months I spent in South Africa were back when I was a student -- I was mostly in Cape Town and Stellenbosch, but I did also get the chance to spend some time in and around Kruger National Park and in Swaziland. I had a fantastic time in the months I spent there and plan to go back as soon as possible (only issues of cash flow keep me away!). --Ngb 21:20, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

Banter

Well, the court has been laid, ready for the game. I imported white sand all the way from the forest. The raw sand was then refined in a special filter, and fed through a sand distributor to make the lines! Cool eh? Only the whitest, purest sand is used to make our courts. I doubt very much that you'll win, as I have expanded your court to full size again. Just kidding. I had noticed your observation, i'm very excited, but better to wait until everyone is saying it before we crack open the champagne. What did you study today, maths or German?

Rollback

Hi Banes, When I view the diff between two edits, there is a rollback link which when clicked will revert to the previous edit not authored by the last editor and puts in the summuary for example "Reverted edits by 202.156.6.59 to last version by Srini81". What does help which you can also use is CryptoDerk's Vandal Fighter . It gives me an unfair advantage over vandels--Jcw69 06:35, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
