Mefkure was a motor schooner chartered to carry Jewish Holocaust refugees from Romania to Palestine, sailing under the Turkish and Red Cross flags. On August 5, 1944, while crossing the Black Sea, it was torpedoed by the Soviet submarine SC 215 and sunk, killing 345 people.
