History

AGV Sports Group was founded in Frederick, Maryland in 1985. AGV Sports Group was born in the early days of AGV helmets entry into the North American market. AGV Helmets was founded in 1947 by Gino Amisano in the Valenza, Italy, hence the name "A G V". Today AGV helmets and AGV Sports Group are two completely autonomous companies, one Italian and one American. In 1978 AGV USA, a division of Intersport, Inc. located in Maryland, became the official importer of AGV Helmets for the United States. In 1985 AGV SpA assumed the distribution rights in the US. Intersport, Inc. was licensed the right to make apparel and other products excluding helmets worldwide bearing the AGV name and trademark. By the early 1990s the AGVSPORT brand was being used on must apparel for aesthetics reasons due to the different graphic requirements of apparel from helmets.

From 1985 to 1999 AGV Sports Group and AGV Helmets US office operated with the same management, offices, and warehouses. In 2001 the AGVSPORT name became a fully independent brand belonging to AGV Sports Group, Inc. a privately held US corporation. Today AGV Helmets is owned by the Italian apparel company Dainese.
