Réseau de Résistance du Québecois (RRQ) is an organisation working for the independence of Quebec. The group is primarily composed of young hardliner sovereignists known in French as the purs et durs.
History
Created by young nationalists, the RRQ is a militant organization launched by the newspaper "Le Québécois".
In January 2008, the Réseau de Résistance du Québecois launched a campaign against Quebec City’s 400th anniversary celebrations and accused the organizers of being historical revisionists who had been corrupted by Canadian federalism.
In 2009, the RRQ launched a major campaign against the Combat reenactment of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham, a important battle of the French and Indian war. The RRQ played a major role in the cancellation of the reenactment, although threats of violence against organizers of the event also contributed to the cancellation. A spokesperson for the RRQ, notable Quebec filmaker Pierre Falardeau threatened that "some people will get their asses kicked" and promised re-enactment spectators "a trip they won't soon forget" if the event took place.
