The school opened in 1967 and is named for Monsignor Thomas J. Quigley, who was superintendent of schools for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh until his death in 1960. The athletic teams are known as the "Spartans". It has a well-known and nationally recognized weight lifting team. The Mock Trial team was national runner-up for the year 2002.
