Major John Granville Morrison, 1st Baron Margadale was born in 1906. He married Hon. Margaret Smith, daughter of William Smith, 2nd Viscount Hambleden and Lady Esther Gore, on 16 October 1928 and had two children:
- James Morrison, 2nd Baron Margadale, 17 July 1930–6 April 2003
- The Honourable Sir Charles Andrew Morrison, 25 June 1932–May 2005. He married Antoinette Long, daughter of Walter Long, 2nd Viscount Long and Frances Charteris, on 28 October 1954; no issue. A one time Conservative MP
