Elena Vasiliyevna Obraztsova (Template:Lang-ru) (b. in Leningrad, now St Petersburg Russia, on July 7, 1939) is a Russian mezzo-soprano. In June 2007 Obraztsova was appointed as the artistic director for opera at Mikhailovsky Theatre in St Petersburg. She has played many roles throughout her career, including, perhaps most famously, Carmen in 1978 opposite Plácido Domingo and Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana: both were also filmed in these roles under the direction of Franco Zeffirelli. In December 1977 she opened the 200th opera season in La Scala (Milan) singing Don Carlo's Eboli under the conduction of Claudio Abbado. She recorded several roles with Herbert von Karajan.
