-Max Ehrmann, DesiderataAvoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit.
-Mrs. Floquenbeam, while watching my daughter and I both "playing" at the same timeMisplaced Pages is basically Webkinz World for grownups.
Hello, and welcome
- I respond to Floquenbeam, Floq, Flo, FB, any other nickname you can think of (as long as it's not rude), or even "hey you", as long as I know from context you're talking to me.
- I'm easy to get along with (at least in real life), so please give me any constructive criticism you want; I don't get offended easily.
- My first edit was on 13 August 2008 (to this user page).
- On 7 July 2009, I made my 1000th edit. Not that I keep track or anything.
Interests
I'm a huge fan of the random article link, and I often read whenever I have a few minutes free here and there. I am an occasional lurker in Misplaced Pages space, and a voracious reader in Article space. I wish I could devote more time to actually contributing, but it’s hard to find a block of time to set aside.
I'm mostly a WikiGnome (let's be honest) WikiSloth, because I can feel slightly useful without needing long periods of uninterrupted concentration (I'm often trying to multitask in the real world while editing). So far it’s mostly:
- Repairing links to disambiguation pages (more interesting than you might think, since you need to read a little to see which link is appropriate)
- Reverting vandalism. I’m sure it will eventually become unmanageable, but I currently keep every page I edit on my watchlist, so I also revert vandalism to articles I’ve previously edited. Usually someone else gets to it first, though. If I'm bored, I'll also do some QA / QC on Recent changes.
- Poking around in essentially random corners of Misplaced Pages, commenting where it seems interesting. So far I'd say 80% of my comments are at least somewhat useful, 15% harmless, and 5% probably should have been previewed one more time before being submitted. This isn't Utopia, so those are pretty good numbers.
In addition, I'd like to eventually do something useful in the areas of:
- Structural engineering (professional interest)
- Nondestructive testing, especially acoustic emission (professional interest)
- Montessori education (I'm a parent of Montessori kids)

Userboxes
My first userbox, inspired by a conversation with an incredulous 25 year old coworker today:
This user remembers (with nostalgia) having to use punch cards to run Fortran programs in college. |
Strings around finger
In next couple of weeks, look at:
- Better replacement for Thomas Sowell quote in Matthew Shepard, Hate crime, or both, or niether
- Partially my fault this is still an article, so try to clean up Direct to garment printing
- Stop procrastinating and get back to Channel X disambiguation
