Amazing Race Misplaced Pages Starts!

Hello, Shappy. This is a reminder that Amazing Race Misplaced Pages will start very soon. At 00.00 (or whereabouts), our host Firestorm will place the first Detour on your submissions page. Again, the Detour is a choice between two tasks; both members of the team choose one task and work together to complete it. A Roadblock is a task only one team member must perform; he/she may not have any help from the other team member. Good luck and enjoy the Race! :-) Shappy (talk · contribs) and Firestorm (talk · contribs) --EdwardsBot (talk) 13:34, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Where's the submissions page and the rules, etc.? I'm confused by the contest so you might just have to take whatever content I produce :p Gary King (talk) 21:29, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Doing a featured list would probably be easier then. I have been working on List of The Legend of Zelda games on and off if you want to take a stab at it. Gary King (talk) 21:39, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
List of Metroid media, which was an FL that I worked on. Gary King (talk) 21:44, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

From the Judges

Some did well this week, but a lot of you didn't move much. Some are still hanging under the 200 mark. Our current top 8 are all over 200, so if you are below that line, get moving! There is a poll up at the talk page about the rest of this year's competition. If all of you could give your opinion there, it would be very much appreciated.

DYK for The Finale (Will & Grace)

Updated DYK query On July 5, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article The Finale (Will & Grace), which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

WP:OVERUSE is useful, but it's a bit out of date now - I keep meaning to update it myself with some of the more useful debates that have taken place recently. Still, it's a good place to start. Black Kite 21:15, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Funeral of Michael Jackson

I reverted your deletion of the Quincy Jones & Elizabeth Taylor references because their non-attendance (especially Liz's) has been reported by numerous sources; in that case it was more appropriate to add "fact" tags (since I don't have time to look them up myself). I was doing that along with adding hidden text to deter (though it certainly won't prevent) further unsourced additions to the official guest list (I had already removed Madonna & Beyoncé); your deletion caused an edit collision, so I had to re-edit the section and copy & paste my text. --RBBrittain (talk) 11:34, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

From the Judges

There were a few mistakes in last weeks' newsletter. Apologies about that. In regards to the competition, a few of you shot up in points this week. Very, very impressive. However, now that some have shot up to the top, others of you have to work even harder to catch up! There are about 3 weeks left in the round, so if you're behind, now is really the time to start nominating content, so that it can count for this round. If you wait too long, we won't be able to hold off the round while your content is being reviewed.

Per this tiny poll, the remainder of the competition has been altered.. sorry!! The changes being made are as follows: "We will be combining the last three rounds. Round 4 will now last from August through September, with 8 contestants. On September 1st, however, we will eliminate the bottom four contestants. The top four contestants will continue the round with the same score. Then, one person will win out of the remaining four on September 30th." You can also see this change to the main WikiCup page.

Lastly, we'd like to welcome back Shoemaker's Holiday into the competition! 'weburiedoursecretsinthegarden, iMatthew  at, and The Helpful One

removing csd tags on articles not created by you

Regarding your question here yes, you absolutely are allowed to do that. Numerous users (myself included) have tried to point out mistaken CSD tags to this user recently, but he apparently refuses to discuss the matter or review the CSD criteria. Beeblebrox (talk) 03:23, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Toothing

Please don't add back the Webster's Quotations reference. Icon Group International produces computer-generated books mostly based on Misplaced Pages - they're junk. See Philip_M._Parker#Automatically_generated_books. Fences&Windows 20:16, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Apology & remaining concern

You are right; I was mistaken. You undertook a short discussion on the subject. Try Talk:Fascism or Talk:Sarah Palin if you laboring under the mistaken impression that the discussion on Blastoise is a thorough discussion. The former especially is a good example of how to categorize a compromise wording; unfortunately it seems that the Blastoise discussion is bogged down over the much more basic aesthetic of notability, and subverted by AfD and reverts; looking at the pros isn't going to help much if the basics aren't mastered. WikiCup participates in the Misplaced Pages:The Great Misplaced Pages Dramaout

Hello all, iMatthew here. I just wanted to let you know about "The Great Misplaced Pages Dramaout" which starts this Saturday. The goal of the Dramaout is to spend five days working on improving articles and abstaining from any of Misplaced Pages's drama. I don't think that any of you will have a problem focusing on articles for five days, because of course, any work you get done during the Dramaout will count towards your score in the WikiCup. Details are on the page; hope to see you all signing up! :) iMatthew  at 00:27, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

On the road again

I'll be going away on Sunday for 3-4 weeks. Could you please keep an eye on my current Simpsons GAC noms? Also, I'm supposed to be working on some articles for the season 3 topic drive (although I haven't started work on any of them). If you want to work on those articles, you can just take my name off and do it. I don't know why we have so many drives (one for each season) going, it kind of defeats the purpose of an organised drive (the purpose being to pool our abilities and make a concentrated effort) to suddenly have a dozen drives. Anyway, have fun. -- Scorpion 17:19, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

WP:NODRAMA reminder

Thanks for signing up for the Great Misplaced Pages Dramaout. Misplaced Pages stands to benefit from the improvements in the article space as a result of this campaign. This is a double reminder. First, the campaign begins on July 18, 2009 at 00:00 (UTC). Second, please remember to log any articles you have worked on during the campaign at Misplaced Pages:The Great Misplaced Pages Dramaout/Log. Thanks again for your participation! --Jayron32.talk.say no to drama 21:16, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
