Andrew Lloyd Webber (born 1948) is a highly successful composer of musical theater.
Webber was born in London, England.
He had a succession of hit shows in the 1970s and 1980s collaborating with lyricist Tim Rice, including Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, and The Phantom of the Opera, all of which ran for many years on London's West End and on Broadway, amongst many other productions. Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar have been turned into films.
His other musical theater works include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Starlight Express, Aspects of Love, Sunset Boulevard, Whistle Down The Wind, Song and Dance, and The Beautiful Game. He has also composed for film.
He was knighted in 1992.
