Omar S. Amanat is a businessman and entrepreneur who founded Tradescape, a brokerage and technology firm that on one given day is reported to have processed 7% of NASDAQ's daily trading volume, and was previously named one of the "Top 100 Companies in the United States" by the Red Herring magazine . E*Trade entered into an agreement to acquire Tradescape for total consideration worth up to $280 million and Mr. Amanat became one of E*Trade's largest shareholders.
He is also an Executive Producer and co-founder of film companies including Groundswell Productions, a $200 million film production company which produces films such as the Academy Award nominated film "The Visitor," Sean Penn's academy award winning film "Milk." and Matt Damon's "The Informant." Other films Mr. Amanat has executive produced include George Clooney's documentary about the Darfur genocide entitled "Darfur Now," 2008's "Smart People" starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Dennis Quaid, and "The Mysteries of Pittsburgh" starring Sienna Miller and Nick Nolte among other films .
