Nathaniel Hawthorne (July 4, 1804 - May 17, 1864) was an early nineteenth century American novelist and short story author. He was born in Salem, Massachussetts and died in Plymouth, New Hampshire. After he died, some of his works were edited by his wife and published for the first time.
