Instructions for sysoping someone

  1. Wait at least seven days after the listing was made on Misplaced Pages:Requests for adminship
  2. If it is not a self-request, check the user has accepted the nomination
  3. Check if there is a general consensus that the person should be sysopped (the rule of thumb is that nominees with a 75% support:oppose ratio are not promoted without a reason good reason, such as elimination of sockpuppets or bogus votes. Similarly those with more than 80% support generally are, and you should use discretion in between)
  4. In the case of bureaucracy be aware that, in a year and a half, noone has become a bureaucrat without at least 90% support and only two have been made bureaucrat with more than two opposes.
  5. If you make a promotion or deny one outside of the above guidelines, or in the area between 75% and 80%, be prepared to make an explanation to any editors who ask in a civil manner.
  6. If the above conditions are met, make them an admin or bureaucrat using Special:Makesysop
  7. Add their name to the list at Misplaced Pages:List of administrators or Misplaced Pages:Bureaucrats
  8. Use {{subst:rfap}}-{{subst:rfab}} as a header and footer, respectively, when closing a successful nomination. Similarly, use {{subst:rfaf}}-{{subst:rfab}} for a failed nomination.
  9. Move the listing from requests for adminship to recently created admins or recently created bureaucrats
  10. Inform the user that they are now a sysop or bureaucrat

Instructions for changing usernames

  1. Check that the request at Misplaced Pages:Changing username is legitimate
  2. Be sure that the user has no history of abuse and that the request is in the best interest of the project. Use your judgement.
  3. Enter the old and new name at Special:Renameuser
  4. Recreate the old account and then block it. This prevents someone else creating it in an attempt to impersonate the renamed user.
  5. Redirect the user and talk pages of the old account to the new account
  6. Inform the user their request has been carried out
  7. Archive the request at Misplaced Pages:Changing username
