'''Missouri State Highway 96''' is a state highway running between ] at ] and ] near ]. A large section of the highway between Halltown and ] served as ] and is currently marked as Historic Route 66.
The road was numbered due to its being an extension of ] and its eastern terminus was in Carthage. When US 66 was decommissioned east of Joplin, Missouri 96 was extended to cover US 66.
Missouri 96 was turned into ] YY west of Missouri 171 when Kansas decommissioned the eastern part of Kansas 96.
