Gholamreza Takhti (غلامرضا تختی; 1930-1968) is the most famous Persian wrestler. He is considered a heroic symbol by some Iranians. He was most famous for his chivalrous and sportsmanship behavior in normal life as well as in sport.
Takhti died a suspicious death in 1968, and while the Pahlavi government of Iran claimed that he has committed suicide in his hotel room, many people considered him to have been killed by the government because of his political activities against the regime. Behrouz Afkhami has directed the movie Takhti about the various guesses about Takhti's death.
