Pictures
At this point I really don't care about the status of pictures I've uploaded before notation was standardized. Most are public domain; some are simply conversions of pictures others have uploaded. Given the cavalier picture deletion activities that have evidently occurred while I was on break, I don't feel too bad about this attitude either. - Hephaestos|§ 06:14, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Sumo.jpeg
Hi Hephaestos, I was wondering about the copyright status of Image:Sumo.jpeg. It is tagged as public domain and comes from . How do we know this is public domain? silsor 04:54, Mar 13, 2005 (UTC)
- Because it is from a .gov website. - Hephaestos|§ 08:25, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- We know that works of the US federal government are PD, but what about random photos from a 1994 Fermilab poster that just happens to be on a .gov web site? I'm not trying to be difficult, just labeling images more accurately. silsor 15:14, Mar 13, 2005 (UTC)
- If it were a non-government photo there would be an author or a disclaimer on it; there's none. - Hephaestos|§ 01:49, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, copied this talk to the image page. silsor 15:26, Mar 14, 2005 (UTC)
your fr:page
fr:Utilisateur:Hephaestos is a redirect to fr:Utilisateur:Mr. Fuck and seems often vandalised, must we restore the page at his original place and protect it ? please reply on fr:discussion utilisateur:phe phe 05:04, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry, but it wasn't really me, sir! And I don't even have an account on French or Hungarian Misplaced Pages. That's the truth! -- Mike Garcia | talk 16:53, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Now somebody redirected it to fr:Utilisateur:Vagina this time. I didn't do that either. -- Mike Garcia | talk 04:34, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I revered a minor vandalism ("fuck", twice) yesterday on Confederation. There was a vandalism on my page on fr: afterwards, "Yeah, right, I said fuck you" (minor too, obvious lack of imagination) signed with your signature on fr: - from an ip of course. Ok, I didn't think for a second you did that. Looks like you have some enemy. Didup 07:54, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Nope, that wasn't me either. Please don't ban me again. -- Mike Garcia | talk 14:49, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Michael confirms
Since you're back, Hephaestos. I would just like to confirm that I was NOT at your french Misplaced Pages account at all. I did not even move your page and everything. Feel free to e-mail me. -- Mike Garcia | talk 23:08, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Methinks thou dost protest too much. How is it, Michael, that you always know when someone harrasses me here? - Hephaestos|§ 08:41, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Hephaestos, I'm just trying to wish that you'd understand that it wasn't me at your language accounts. Please, I don't want to be banned again! -- Mike Garcia | talk 17:11, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Farewell
Sorry to see you getting sick of the place. Le sigh - another good user bites the dust. Ambi 03:28, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Best wishes, Heph, drop a line if you want to get together for a beer sometime. I'll buy. The Uninvited Co., Inc. 02:34, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Hi Hephaestos, sorry to see you go :-( I protected your user page on german wikipedia since someone (Michael?) kept reverting it. Drop me a note on de:Benutzer Diskussion:Elian if you want to unprotect it again. Best wishes, --Elian 01:55, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I didn't know that you had gone. Please come back (even though you are ahead of me in the statistics). Deb 21:57, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry, Elian, but it wasn't me who vandalized his page on German Misplaced Pages and I never ever did that. It's just too bad he had to leave probably because of me thinking I did it but, it really wasn't me and I didn't do this one either. Please, I don't want to be banned again! -- Mike Garcia | talk 15:41, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
missed you
I came to your page because I wanted your opinion of a paragraph that I'd added to Nobel Peace Prize. But you're not here. That's good - there are 314,159,265 better things to do than sit around and edit Misplaced Pages. You're probably doing at least 27 of them. Cheers, -Willmcw 05:40, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

I am posting this message as a courtesy even though you most likely will not return prior to this image being deleted on IFD. I hope you are much happier than when you were editing here. Cheers, Zzyzx11 (Talk) 10:01, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hey pal!
I just found out you've been gone for a while. When are you coming back to Misplaced Pages, Hephaestos? There are a lot of people wanting you to come back. 64.142.89.105 July 9, 2005 01:56 (UTC)
- Well, too bad. That stupid bastard will never come back again, ha-ha! 152.163.100.67 July 12, 2005 00:47 (UTC)
- F.Y.I.! Please see his user page, that's where you'll find out why he's never coming back (in-case you two weren't looking at it). The only way to get through him is by e-mail. -- Mike Garcia | talk July 12, 2005 00:59 (UTC)
To stop repeated vandalism I have had to protect this page. Apologies for any inconvenience.

What's happening? We're losing you!
My dearest friend John, I left you a Barnstar for all the good work you did in the past, especially fixing what banned user Michael has done before he was unbanned. Hope you enjoy whatever it is you're doing just now. All year's been a sad time since you've been gone and everybody's trying to have no hard feelings about it, yeah I've also been missing you ever since. But, I'm sure things will make you feel so much better when you try to come back again sometime before the end of the year or next year and beyond! Good luck and thank you for being at the 'pedia! 64.12.116.67 16:05, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

New user page?
An article was posted by an anon at John Robinson (Misplaced Pages user). I cannot decide whether you posted it. Surely you would have known better than to put it in the (Main) namespace. Anyway I have moved it to User:Hephaestos/John Robinson. Do with it what you will. -- RHaworth 20:05, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:August Weismann.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:August Weismann.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Misplaced Pages (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, ie in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --AllyUnion (talk) 14:07, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
The Philadelphia Project
Hi i have noticed that you have edited several articles on subjects related to the Philadelphia area. Several other users and myself have got together to create a project to help improve, expand, and create articles concerning the Philadelphia/Delaware Valley region. While our project is still new, we are inviting people to join us to help it get started off on the right foot. You can find the project at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Philadelphia, feel free to add your name and drop off an suggestions that you might have. If you have any questions, drop me a line anytime. Thanks. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 01:36, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
Sympathetic message
If it helps at all I share your sentiment, and I said as much in my RfA. - RoyBoy 19:04, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
sympathy
I have been slacking off for a long time, so I entirely missed whatever attacks were made against you. But in case you check your talk page, I want you to know that I have always held you in highest regard, and believe that anything that could lead to your leaving Misplaced Pages is something all serious editors should know about, care about, and act on. Merry Christmas!
Hephaestos, I just wanted to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas! Me and other Wikipedians miss you a lot! -- Mike Garcia 00:16, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
We miss you Heph
I saw you did some light editing recently. Just wanted to let you know that you are missed. Raul654 05:09, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- Wow. I didn't know you came back. Just wanted to say welcome back of course. Hope you'll try to stay forever this time, we sure do miss you a lot. You sure have been gone for so long. But, I know you still don't want to come back because of me. -- Mike Garcia 22:44, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- Just piling on. :) Ambi 04:15, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Copyright problems with Image:AaronCopland.jpeg
An image that you uploaded, Image:AaronCopland.jpeg, has been listed at Misplaced Pages:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Misplaced Pages (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.Pharos 09:41, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
- There really is no need to clutter user talk pages with this stuff. Just delete it, or slap a "fair use" tag on it. Hephaestos|§ 16:42, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Welcome back, Heph!
I just found out you came back and edited again today. Once again, I miss you and I'm sorry for what I've done to you to make you leave this place. Hope you'll stay forever this time, I'm sure things will make you feel happy again if you do so. You know, some people here can't do anything without you if you don't come back at all. Once again, please come back if you can! If you do, I will try to leave you alone, I promise. -- Mike Garcia 01:41, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Hey, long time no "talk". :-) Any ideas about the source of Image:Cross1935.jpeg ? Stan 06:31, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
- Unfortunately no. I got it off some website way back when we weren't so worried about the ins and outs of "fair use". Guess it's better gotten rid of. - Hephaestos|§ 05:06, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
- And you know what, I wish I had some evidence that this place had ever been sued over fair use. Because I don't. I know there are a lot of assholes who sue on account of free advertising, but I haven't seen it here. (Then again I haven't been looking closely lately.) Just on a cursory inspection, it looks to me like Wales is making money hand over fist for putting a bunch of bullshit on the web. - Hephaestos|§ 05:12, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Hey!
Take a look at these WP:ESP and WP:WPY (especially wikibios). -JCarriker 05:15, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:RobertHJackson.jpeg
Thanks for uploading Image:RobertHJackson.jpeg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Misplaced Pages (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 18:32, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
Copyright problems with Image:BabeRuthSox.jpeg
An image that you uploaded, Image:BabeRuthSox.jpeg, has been listed at Misplaced Pages:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Misplaced Pages (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.- The company who claims copyright says on their website that, since the photograph was never printed until they found it, copyright is still available. If you have reason to believe that's not true, you should state that on the image page. Also, whether the photo it in the public domain hinges not only on whether the photo was taken before 1923, but also on whether the photographer died before 1956.
