Batman is a city on the Batman River in southeast Turkey and is the capital of Batman Province. In 2003 census the city had about 266,100 inhabitants. Although the census didn't give data on ethnicity, the BBC claims the city has a predominantly kurdish population.
Batman is an important oil producing area. There is a railway track at Kurtalan, near this city, which runs all the way to Istanbul. There is also an airport near Batman. The name is short for the Bati Raman mountains.
