Chrysoupoli (Template:Lang-el, Template:Lang-bg, Sarashaban) is a town and a former municipality in the Kavala peripheral unit, East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Nestos, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. Population 15,678 (2001). It was known as "Sarışaban" during Ottoman rule. It was kaza centre in Drama sanjak at Selanik Vilayet before the Balkan Wars. It was first occupied by Bulgaria during the First Balkan War but was then taken by the Greek Army on the 11th of July, 1913. It was also occupied by Bulgaria between 1941-1944 during World War II. Its old name was Sapaioi between 1913-1929.
