Lithuania Minor, or Mažoji Lietuva, is the historic name of the coastland of Lithuania around Klaipeda, river Nemunas and the Couronian Lagoon. In mediaval ages it was partly Prussian and Lithuanian. From 1871 to 1920 it belonged to Germany, from 1920 to 1923 it was governed by France as Memelland district. In 1923 Lithuanian troops took over control.
