August Sigmund Frobenius was a German chemist in the 18th century who is known for the first description of diethyl ether. Not much is known about his life. He seems to have worked in the lab or Hankwitz and to have produced ether in 1730, partially following a method of Isaac Newton. His first article about ether was published 1730 in the Philosophical transactions under the title "Of a Spiritus Aetheraeus". He kept his method to produce diethyl ether a secret. Only after his death was his method published, but then several other chemists had already published their syntheses.
