The U.S.A.K ("Uluslararası Stratejik Arastirmalar Kurumu" - in English, "International Strategic Research Organization" or I.S.R.O.) is a leading Turkish non-governmental organization and think tank specializing in the analysis of global security, international law, international economy and other areas of international relations as well as Turkish foreign policy. In their view, the study of international relations is dominated by a Western point of view; they intend to provide an alternative perspective.
The activities of the U.S.A.K. include research, publications, seminars and conferences, as well as policy recommendations. The U.S.A.K. also conducts surveys on foreign policy and security issues.
It is based in Ankara, capital of Turkey (Turkiye): Suslu street, No. 2, Mebusevleri, Tandogan, Ankara. 2 km from Ulus, 2 km from Kizilay, and 30 km from Esenboga.
The institution is known for its close to center politics in terms of political spectrum. The surveys conducted by U.S.A.K. has enjoyed a substantial coverage in the Turkish press and media including English language dailies in the past. The head of the institution, Sedat Laciner is a well known figure in the political TV debates, with his sui generis style. As an ex-journalist from the wellknown Milliyet newspaper(NYT of Turkey), he seems to have high level contacts in the capital Ankara.
Last year, Sedat Laciner has been selected as a Global Young Leader probably due to his work with the U.S.A.K. Despite seen as a think thank with local contacts, time to time they organize meetings with international personalities around the world. Lately Retired Ambassador of Japan to the Georgia and two Lecturers from Canterbury and Salford has given presentations in the institute.
