Shortcut- ]
Below is a list of duplicate articles that have been created mostly by mistake. They have to be merged into a single piece of work, and one title has to be redirected to the other (or a completely new page must be created) in accordance with Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions and Misplaced Pages:Canonicalization.
If you disagree with a 'merge' indication then change the template from {{Merge}} to {{MergeDisputed}} and discuss it on this page until consensus is reached.
Proactive action: avoiding duplicates
The creation of duplicate articles, and the wasted effort this causes, can be avoided by creating lots of redirects. Also, when creating new articles, search for existing articles on the same subject (when search is enabled).
Misplaced Pages:Orphaned Articles lists articles that aren't linked to, and may have been created when a new article was created without having searched for a previously existing article.
Mark current duplicates
If you find an article which appears to be the duplicate of another article, place the template {{Merge}} followed by a link to the duplicate article. It will read:
Peer-to-peer.It has been suggested that this page be merged with a page that has not been specified. If you are the editor who added this template, please specify. (Discuss)
This marks the page so that future viewers will see that it needs to be merged.
Help with the clean-up
To merge articles, follow the advice on the list below. Usually, an experienced user will suggest that one article be absorbed into another. Read both articles carefully and decide which article has the more appropriate title and content. Merge the content by copying/pasting from one window to another. Be sure not to allow any of the good content to be lost in the transfer. Upon completion, it is critical to place a redirect on the page that the content has been moved from. (i.e.- If you move the content of "Doe, John" into "John Doe," you would put a redirect on "Doe, John.")
Alternatively, you could also leave the two pages distinct (without a redirect), but complete the text of one of the pages so that it is no longer a duplicate, incorrect, or a stub. For example, someone might suggest that the "Cinema of India" and "History of Indian Cinema" be merged, as they contain mostly duplicate information. It would be good to move any general information to the "Cinema of India" page, while writing an article on how the Indian Cinema came to its current state of being on the current "History of Indian Cinema" page.
After a pair has been merged, please remove them from the list below. If you want to show off your work, use the Talk Page.

- A simple proof that 22/7 exceeds Pi should be merged into pi. Neutrality 23:14, 22 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Neutrality: The merge tag is intended for duplicate articles, in order to eliminate redundency. These articles are not duplicates, and contain no redundent material. So I think the merge tag should be removed. If what you mean is that the article about the proof, should be incorporated into the article pi, perhaps discussing this on the talk pages for the two articles would be best? - Agile Methods and Agile methods. Ouch. Neither look particularly clean, either. - Fennec (はさばくのきつね) 23:09, 10 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- I gave it a shot--probably could use some polishing from someone more knowledgable about the topic. I also moved it to agile software development since that term gets twice the google hits (I'm about halfway thru fixing the double-redirects, but the rest might have to wait until tomorrow, as it's getting late). I really think the "XP values" and "XP principles" sections should be moved to the Extreme Programming article, but it already has a scary list of 'references', and I'm not sure how to work in the footnote references from the Agile article. Niteowlneils 03:31, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- American Revolutionary War (1911 Encyclopedia, part 1) and American Revolutionary War (1911 Encyclopedia, part 2) have info in their histories which could be added to American Revolutionary War. Onebyone 22:52, 5 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- Ammunition for infantry
- Some wiki-links but desperately dull. Should it be incorporated into Ammunition? --Phil 10:55, Mar 4, 2004 (UTC)
- Anglo-American playing card into playing card — A lot of redundant content. Modern usage of "playing card" refers to the Anglo-American deck. Netoholic 12:12, 23 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Anglican continuing churches and Continuing Anglican
- Animal intelligence with Intelligence in animals
- Incidents in Aviation should probably be merged into List of years in aviation, as should some of the content on Aviation history.
- There is great overlap between these two Afghanistan articles - Democratic Republic of Afghanistan and Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Worse, they do not agree with each other! TwoOneTwo 22:27, 14 May 2004 (UTC)
- Arab Peace Initiative and Saudi peace plan —Gabbe 22:43, Jun 8, 2004 (UTC)
- Aramaean and Aramean the first one also needs some editing to remove excessive quoting. It has been on the cleanup for a month. - --Frosty 22:12, 15 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- Astrobiology was recently split from Exobiology. This was done by an Anonymous user with no real indication of why they did it. The two articles have now diverged and could do with some TLC. CS Miller 13:47, Jun 24, 2004 (UTC)
- Agreed, and I think that Xenobiology should be moved to Astrobiology (which is the more common term) and the current astrobiology content merged into the moved article. Xenobiology only gets about 4,800 hits on Google, but Astrobiology gets 500,000. --Lexor|Talk 14:55, 24 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- Do we use the most common term, or the scientificly preferred term? The original article was also redirected from Exobiology, which I'd forgot to mention (assumed it was obvious to anyone who looked at the current redirects). I don't really have the time or the detailed knowledge to make a good job of merging these articles. -- CS Miller 13:48, Jun 28, 2004 (UTC)
- I think the scientifically preferred term should be used (qv heart attack, which is a redirect). -Sean Curtin 14:14, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

- Cinema and Film -- preferably at "Film" since the word "cinema" is hardly known in the USA, while "film" is worldwide.

- Coaches and Coaching -- Need to be merged at coaching and its subpages (e.g. sports coaching). Warofdreams
- Moved Coaches to Coach (sport); Sports coaching text should be merged into that article. Coaching should probably be revised to something like Coach (business) or Coach (culture) - though I'm not sure of the best title - with the sports-related stuff removed to the other article. The Coach article can have appropriate links to both variants.MisfitToys 02:33, Jun 5, 2004 (UTC)

- Dartos should merge with Dartos muscle. The are the same thing. Dartos has more information and should probably stay.
- Degree and Degree (mathematics) should probably be merged somehow (I haven't yet placed a {{merge}} designation on either because... well, for some reason, I'm not feeling very bold right now). - dcljr 02:57, 20 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Orphan The depression and the new deal (it looks like a school report) into Great Depression and New Deal, if there's anything new in the former.
- District of Columbia (geography) should be merged with Washington, DC. It has very little content that isn't duplicative, and isn't really about geography, either. Postdlf 05:20, 14 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Dr. Teeth should merge with Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. The latter article is listed on Cleanup. A good merge should fix the problem.
- The Electric Mayhem lists several muppets in addition to Dr. Teeth -- why should he be the only one to merge? Maybe The Electric Mayhem should merge with one of the generic muppets pages instead, and we should leave Dr. Teeth alone. wclark 8:39 PM 4 Jul 2004 EST
- Dormant Commerce Clause needs to be merged with Commerce Clause by someone with an interest in U.S. Constitution.
- Though obviously connected, these are in fact separate legal topics. The Dormant Commerce Clause is a distinct legal doctrine in Supreme Court case law from its rulings on Congressional Commerce Clause power. The main problem right now is just poor writing in the Dormant Commerce Clause article...it's kind of incoherent. It looks like someone just pasted in their law school essay. - Hemp should be merged into Cannabis
- Hemp is a plant, Cannabis a drug. Those are two completely different categories of things, and although there is some degree of overlap there is sufficient difference to have separate articles
- Sorry to correct you but, that is outright wrong. Cannabis is not the drug, it is the scientific name of the plant. The two articles should be merged and a separate article about the drug should be at Tetrahydrocannabinol with redirects from Hashish, Marijuana, etc. Kosebamse
- It seems appropriate to have one article Hemp on the plant and its use for purposes not related to THC, one article on the chemical aspects of Tetrahydrocannabinol (as it is now), and one article at Cannabis on the variety of drugs that are based on THC and carry various names according to production method, consumption method, and/or community. Unfortunately I lack the technical knowledge on the drugs to shift the respective parts between Hemp and Cannabis. -- Gauss 17:05, 12 May 2004 (UTC)
- Generally, articles on species, genera, etc. are at the common name, with a redirect from the scientific name. The article should therefore be at hemp with a redirect from Cannabis. -phma 07:01, 4 Jul 2004 (UTC)
