Atlas Shrugged: Part 2 is a forthcoming film based on the novel Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. It is intended to serve as a sequel to the movie Atlas Shrugged: Part 1, and will continue the story where the predecessor movie left off. The producers of the film have created a website that invites users to leave messages in a forum but does not yet provide details about the film.
Background
After the box office failure of Atlas Shrugged: Part 1, there was some doubt as to whether or not any more of the proposed trilogy would be put into production. However, the production company of the film has announced that production will begin on the film this April, and a release is scheduled for around the election season this fall.
Duncan Scott, who in 1986 was responsible for creating a new, re-edited version with English subtitles of the 1942 Italian film adpatation of We the Living has been announced as joining the production team and it was further announced on April 2, 2012 that Part 2 will have an all-new cast. Starring in the film will be Samantha Mathis as the heroine Dagny Taggart, Jason Baghe as the industrialist Henry “Hank” Rearden, and Esai Morales as the playboy Francisco “Frisco” d’Anconia.
Confirmed Details
Atlas Shrugged: Part 2 will have a larger budget than its predecessor, and the production company has currently raised much of the $25 million they hoped to raise. Producers of the film have released a teaser trailer that features contemporary commentators commending the prescience of Rand's works, and snippets of interviews with Ayn Rand, the author of Atlas Shrugged, herself.
