A resource-based economy is a term used for the economy of a country whose gross national product or gross domestic product to a large extent comes from natural resources.
For example Suriname, is depending on the export of Bauxite, which accounts for more than 15% of GDP and 70% of export earnings. Russian export is for more than 80% based on oil, natural gas, metals and timber. Norway depends on the export of oil and gas, that forms 45% of total exports and constitute more than 20% of the GDP.
Alternative use
The term resource-based economy or post scarcity is also an economic theory in which money, debt, exchange, private property and the profit motive would serve no purpose and human needs such as food, housing, goods, services, information, etc. are free. The Venus Project, the Zeitgeist Movement and the Technocracy Movement use the term resource-based economy to mean a holistic socio-economic system in which all resources become the common heritage of all the inhabitants of the planet.
