Revision as of 22:12, 25 May 2012
A nation has a resource-based economy when the gross national product or gross domestic product largely comes from natural resources.
For example the economy of Suriname depends on the export of Bauxite, which accounts for more than 15% of GDP and 70% of export earnings. Russian export is for more than 80% based on oil, natural gas, metals and timber. Norway depends on the export of oil and gas for 45% of total exports and more than 20% of the GDP.
The Technocracy Movement, ,] and the Zeitgeist Movement use the term resource-based economy (RBE) (or post scarcity) for a holistic global socio-economic system in which all resources become the common heritage of all the inhabitants of the planet.
