Atlas Shrugged: Part 2 is a forthcoming film based on the novel Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. It is intended to serve as a sequel to the movie Atlas Shrugged: Part 1, and will continue the story where the predecessor movie left off. The producers of the film have created a website that invites users to leave messages in a forum.
Production
After the box office failure of Atlas Shrugged: Part 1, there was some doubt as to whether or not any more of the proposed trilogy would be put into production. However, in a private debt sale in early 2012, the producers raised $16 million of the $25 million they sought, enabling a budget larger than that of the first movie. The production company announced that Part 2 would be released to coincide with the U.S. general election season in fall 2012.
The name of the production company for the second film, Either Or Productions, LLC, is taken from the name, Either-Or, that Rand gave to the middle ten chapters of her novel. An April press release stated the name of the movie as Atlas Shrugged, Part 2: Either Or.
Principal photography began on April 2, 2012 with an all-new cast, including Samantha Mathis as the heroine Dagny Taggart, Jason Beghe as the industrialist Henry Rearden, and Esai Morales as the playboy Francisco d'Anconia. Duncan Scott, who in 1986 was responsible for creating a new, re-edited version with English subtitles of the 1942 Italian film adaptation of We the Living joined the production team. The movie is on a 31-day shooting schedule, four days more than that of the first movie, but will undergo two months of post-production before release.
Marketing
The producers released a teaser trailer that features contemporary commentators commending the prescience of Rand's works, and snippets of interviews with Rand herself.
