In February 2009 Shilpa and her husband ] became part owners of the ] franchise cricket team ] by paying approximately US $15.4&nbsp;million for a 11.7% stake.

===HIV-AIDS===

Similar protests broke out in other cities, including ], ]'s holiest city, and the northern town of ], where crowds of hundreds of thousands chanted "Down with Shilpa Shetty!" Shetty responded to these protests by saying, "I understand this (kissing) is his (Gere's) culture, not ours. But this was not such a big thing or so obscene for people to overreact in such a manner.
