Maybe some other ones, if you could think of any. Anyways, the reason I bring it up is, because I think people are seeing the RfC as a little more "black and white" than it may be. In particular, it seems like there's been a few people explain very similar rationales, but end up summarizing their stances on opposite sides. Even myself, who put down "Support", falls much more into the "Support Conditionally" category much more so. However, the RfC has been going on for a while already, so it may be too late, or difficult, to adjust the approach now. Thoughts? Or should I copy/paste these thoughts at the discussion page too? ] ] 13:44, 15 August 2012 (UTC) Maybe some other ones, if you could think of any. :Yeah, I'm not sure what to do either. On one hand, it'd almost be nice to start over with a new RfC with a different approach, preset options, etc, and then just notify people who had commented before to review it and comment again, especially since it's not like we're working towards ''any'' sort of consensus as it is. But I don't know if that's acceptable, and I don't want it to look dishonest or anything either, like "we're gonna keep on rewording until we get the answer we want!" - which isn't what we're doing at all, but you never know how people may interpret it. I'm going on vacation for the weekend, so I won't be around to help for the next couple days. So, it's up to you if you want to try something like that, or just wait out a few more days and see if anything else develops, and then take it from there. ] ] 16:57, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Admin coaching

Hello. I noticed your request for a coach over at Admin coaching, and I'm available. If you do not currently have an admin coach, I would be glad to be your coach. I do have a few of conditions though, and they are that you:

  1. watch your coaching page closely, and reply to every post there in a timely fashion
  2. fill in all of your edit summaries (if you find yourself forgetting, there's a setting in "my preferences" that will remind you)
  3. complete all the assignments you are given to the best of your ability. If you have trouble with an assignment, by all means, let me know, so we can discuss possible solutions and alternatives.
  4. don't go for your RfA or accept an RfA nomination except from me - I will nominate you when I believe you are ready

Please let me know if you agree, and we can get started.

I look forward to your reply.

King of 02:54, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

I have created the page User:Sjones23/Admin coaching, from which I will coordinate the coaching. Right now, it's pretty much blank, but I'll add more to it as we go. Be sure to check on it regularly. I'll start off by asking you the standard RfA questions on the page. Best regards, King of 03:04, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Qui

Hi. I would recommend that you get Qui, a tool that allows users to view each other's status more easily. This way, I can know when it is convenient to contact you, and vice versa. After you get it, just add me to your friends list. Note: It doesn't work very well in Internet Explorer, so if you have that, might be time to get Firefox. -- King of 23:05, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Admin coaching (2)

Have you read my note at User:Sjones23/Admin coaching? Sorry I didn't make this clear at the beginning, but when you have read a comment of mine on any of the coaching pages, please reply to acknowledge receipt of the comment. -- King of 15:57, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi. You might want to see the new note I added to User:Sjones23/Admin coaching. (Don't forget to watchlist your admin coaching page if you haven't done so already. I general, reply to every message I add, even if your reply is just "OK I got it." This way I know that you read it.) Cheers, King of 03:30, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Admin coaching

Sorry I haven't contacted you in a long time. I was actually a little busy myself. So how is it going? If you have anything new to add, anything you learned, or any questions you would like to ask me, feel free to make a comment at User:Sjones23/Admin coaching#July 2009. -- King of 18:17, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

copyediting Fairy Tail characters list

Hi, on the List of Fairy Tail characters I have to disagree on changing the voice actor references, as the term seiyu isn't at the level of a Japanese loan word, well maybe among anime fans it is? Can we get it changed to anime voice format? AngusWOOF (talk) 03:57, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Yes, and I think we should use this wording, "In the Japanese version of the series, is voiced by . In the English dub, he/she is voiced by " (using List of One Piece characters as a model). Would that work? Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 04:04, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good. Thanks for fixing those. I also went ahead and did those ISBN corrections for Volume 10. AngusWOOF (talk) 04:43, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

List of Fairy Tail characters and FLC

Hey, doing that requested reassessment, I was surprised how developed that article already is. The last time I saw it, it looked rather bare-bones. Anyway, as you mentioned a possible FLC, I thought I'd make you aware of a few things, just in case you aren't already aware of them. So far no list using the gnr/gnn referencing style has gone through FLC. It was introduced to the Naruto list after its promotion. Also, the guy who created/designed the templates/referencing style (that would be me) isn't quite happy with it yet himself. Lastly, having spent considerable time at FLC, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out, let's say, controversial. FLC reviewers do have a tendency for nitpicking. Well, just thought you should know. Goodraise 04:18, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestions. Best wishes, Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 04:23, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
I think the WikiProject Anime and manga team need to get used to and accept gnn/gnr as it's extremely useful for directly sourcing material, which is what the Fairy Tail characters list was originally tagged for lack of citations, and like Goodraise said, gnn/gnr has already been implemented on FLC Naruto and One Piece. Does that mean those articles should be demoted? Otherwise we'd have to go back to the huge list of references like List of Sekirei characters. AngusWOOF (talk) 18:37, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
Should we open up a discussion whether the gnn/gnr thing is acceptable on the centralized discussion page? Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 22:21, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
I don't think that would be of much use. The project members all seem to love it. But that doesn't mean the FLC crowd will. I'm mainly concerned because I've had so little critical feedback on it, while it looks so jury-rigged and unprofessional. I think the way to go is a very thorough peer review, specifically asking reviewers to comment on the referencing style. Goodraise 10:58, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
Hey, just wondering, did you take Misplaced Pages:Peer review/List of Fairy Tail characters/archive1 off your watchlist after it was closed? Goodraise 20:54, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
I did not, but the peer review is continuing. Should we move the comments Misplaced Pages:Peer review/List of Fairy Tail characters/archive2 to the first peer review? Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 22:22, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Peer review isn't among the places I hang out a lot. You could make Ruhrfisch (talk · contribs) aware of this. Goodraise 22:31, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
I moved the comments from PR2 to PR1 and deleted PR2 for now. If you would rather have it archived, please let me know. Ruhrfisch ><>° 04:18, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Your suggestion

Hello S. I knew there was a message that I had been meaning to leave for you and seeing your name on my watchlist jogged my memory. In regards to your suggestion here Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Film#Vandalism_by_201.19..2A..2A about filing an abuse report I would say that anything that might help in this situation is worth trying. You've seen how big the list is that we are working on. Also I keep seeing your name in the edit histories as having reverted the Brazilian menaces edits at the time they were made so you know how long this vandal has been operating. In many ways these edits are worse than the usual vandalism of adding the word "poop" and such. I have no idea what is involved in filing that kind of report but I will offer my full support should you wish to do so. Thanks for all that you have done/are doing/will do in this and in all your other editing. MarnetteD | Talk 04:34, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

GOCE July 2012 Copy Edit Drive

Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their July 2012 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on July 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on July 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to eliminate the articles tagged in April, May and June 2011 from the queue and to complete all requests placed before the end of June. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 6 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in April–June 2011", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa and Stfg.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

After not receiving a response from Lenin and McCarthy to a call for a review by them, I'm asking another experienced editor to judge if the article fulfills the B-class criteria and if it does so, promote it; advice and/or comments on making it better always appreciated and needed. Kaguya-chan and I have been largely involved in the expansion of the article, so we'd better avoid do it ourselves, as an irrelevant person would be more objective. Hope I'm not asking much. Guild of Copy Editors July 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

Participation: Out of 37 people signed up for this drive so far, 25 have copy-edited at least one article. It's a smaller group than last drive, but we're making good progress. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, every bit helps; if you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Template:J

Progress report: We're almost on track to meet our targets for the drive. Great work, guys. We have reduced our target group of articles—May, June, and July 2011—by about 40%, and the overall backlog has been reduced by 264 articles so far, to around 2500 articles.

Copy Edit of the Month: Starting in August, your best copy-editing work of the month will be eligible for fabulous prizes! See here for details. – Your drive coordinators: Stfg, Allens, and Torchiest.

The Dark Knight Rises

Hi Sjones23,

I've noticed that you've started trimming the plot outline section for The Dark Knight Rises down to keep it within the 700 words allowed by WP:FILMPLOT. However, the outline is current at 699 words by my count, and I don't think any further reductions are necessary, and they run the risk of making things a little ambiguous. For instance, you changed this:

At a function celebrating Dent, he plans to admit to the conspiracy, but decides that the city is not ready to hear the truth.

Into this:

At a function celebrating Dent, he plans to admit to the conspiracy, but decides to withhold the truth.

I feel that the problem with this edit is that it gives no reason for Gordon's decision not to reveal the cover-up of Dent's crimes, and makes things a little too ambiguous.

Yes, I know that FILMPLOT is only a guideline. Just because it allows for 700 words, that doesn't mean that a plot outline should be 700 words. However, The Dark Knight Rises is a very complex film, and it was difficult enough to write a first draft that covered the important points whilst staying within 700 words (in the end, I wrote it backwards, starting with the end). Like I said, I think that any futher trimming down of the article will only make things ambiguous, and hurt the article in the long run. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 10:35, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

That makes sense. By the way, I think we should add a release section to the article since we have a source for the NYC world premiere of the film. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 10:38, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
Go for it, if you think it's justified. Maybe merge the Colorado theatre shooting section into it. I don't really know; I don't contribute to film pages that often, and when I do, I tend to work mostly on the recaps of the plot and occasionally characters. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 10:52, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
Got it. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 15:14, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

GOCE July drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors July 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up

Participation: Out of 45 people who signed up this drive, 31 have copy-edited at least one article. Lfstevens continues to carry most of the weight, having edited 360 articles and over a quarter of a million words already. Thanks to all who have participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, will be available early in August here.

Progress report: We are once again very close to achieving in our primary goal—removing the oldest three months from the backlog. Only 35 such articles remain at press time. The total backlog currently sits at under 2400 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We are just two articles away from completing all requests made before July 2012 (both are in progress).

Copy Edit of the Month: Starting in August, you'll be able to submit your best copy-editing work for palaver, praise, and prizes. See here for details. – Your drive coordinators: Stfg, Allens, and Torchiest.

WikiCup 2012 July newsletter

We're approaching the beginning of 2012's final round. Pool A sees Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) as the leader, with 300 points being awarded for the featured article Bivalvia, and Pool B sees Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions) in the lead, with 10 good articles, and over 35 articles eligible for good topic points. Pool A sees New York City Muboshgu (submissions) in second place with a number of articles relating to baseball, while Pool B's Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions) follows Grapple X, with a variety of contributions including the high-scoring, high-importance featured article on the 2010 film Pride & Prejudice. Ruby2010, like Grapple X, also claimed a number of good topic points; despite this, not a single point has been claimed for featured topics in the contest so far. The same is true for featured portals.

Currently, the eighth-place competitor (and so the lowest scorer who would reach the final round right now) has scored 332, more than double the 150 needed to reach the final round last year. In 2010, however, 430 was the lowest qualifying score. In this competition, we have generally seen scores closer to those in 2010 than those in 2011. Let's see what kind of benchmark we can set for future competitions! As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Misplaced Pages talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hey, I went back and took a look at the article, and I think with all the changes it now meets the criteria I had said in my informal GA review. If you want to nominate it, I'll give it a real review, and I expect I'll pass it. --PresN 17:39, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
There's something that's been bugging me about the article. Shouldn't In merchandise be combined with appearances? It contains only two sentences, making it a really small section.Tintor2 (talk) 17:59, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
I think the combination should work. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 20:26, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Banning Policy RfC

Hello, Sjones23! I'm afraid there's some confusion as to the wording of your RfC. I watched what happened at the policy page and then saw you open the thing, so I knew immediately what it was about. But it is vaguely worded with no link to the attempted policy change, and one editor has interpreted the RfC to basically mean "Should we ban every indeffed editor?" I think you should read the latest commentary there and expand the proposal more concisely, preferably with a link to the change that started it. Cheers :> Doc talk 05:56, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Okay then. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 06:00, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Heh! You slipped it in and neither Ched nor I saw it. Very quick! My bad :> Doc talk 06:04, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

That will work for now. :-) Thanks, Doc. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 06:09, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

RE: RfC Question

As you may have seen from my commment, I too, am starting to fear that we're not going to find a consensus on things. I think it could be good to mention at WP:VG. At first I thought it would be redundant to what we had already discussed there, but we had only mentioned the fact that we were going to try to come up with a "WP:NVGCHAR" of sorts, we didn't really discuss the "Top X List" part in particular. So yeah, it may be helpful alert WP:VG on it. Let me know if you'd prefer me or you to say something. Sergecross73 msg me 15:22, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for alerting all those groups. So, a thought has come across my mind, although I admit it may be too late, but I figured I'd throw it out there. It seems like in the past when I've been part of RfC's, usually there's a bunch of preset options to pick from. Something like:
  1. Support - Any RS lists are useable to establish notability.
  2. Support Conditionally - Only useable if significant detail, and consensus in favor of using it.
  3. Oppose - Lists are never acceptable to establish notability.

Sergecross73 msg me 13:44, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm not sure what to do either. On one hand, it'd almost be nice to start over with a new RfC with a different approach, preset options, etc, and then just notify people who had commented before to review it and comment again, especially since it's not like we're working towards any sort of consensus as it is.
