Big Brother UK series 7 in 2006 will be the seventh season of Big Brother in the UK, a reality show shown on Channel 4 in which a number of contestants live in an isolated house trying to avoid being evicted by the public with the aim of winning a large cash prize at the end of the run.
Permission has recently been granted to extend the lease of the house until 2007, meaning it will once again be made at Elstree Studios.
This will be the first full series where there will be no red-button video feed since it was introduced in Big Brother 2. Instead, there will be limited live coverage on E4 with 24/7 live footage available on the Internet via the official Big Brother website.
This year's Big Brother 'eye' will be revealed on Tuesday May 2 on Channel 4 during the series 2 premiere of Lost.
Transmission date
It has been confirmed by Channel 4 that this series will last 13 weeks, the longest yet in the UK series. The series is expected to start on 18 May 2006, a week earlier than originally expected and on a Thursday rather than the "traditional" Friday opening night.
Housemates
This year it is rumoured there will be 16 housemates, once again, a rise in the number of housemates being brought in at the start. As usual, details of the housemates will be kept secret, as they are usually isolated from the outside world in the leadup to the series, in order to avoid hearing about the publicity of the series. There are also rumours stating that one of the contestants will have Tourette's Syndrome.
