Disambiguation link notification for October 3

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of Dominican submissions for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Notes (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Fixing stub changes

Hi,

Thanks for spotting the stub-sorting error with VIAFBot (talk · contribs)! I've been talking to Max, and we think we've worked out how to stop it doing the resorting on any future edits - we're just looking into fixing up the edits before restarting it (under supervision) Andrew Gray (talk) 19:46, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

VIAFbot

Just a quick note to say thanks for spotting the bugs in this - we've rewritten the code to be much simpler, looking for a specific place in the article to insert the template rather than its default setup of trying to be clever! It's been tested on some mockups and seems to be working okay, so we've tried it out on some of the live articles that caused problems and it worked correctly this time, leaving stub tags where they should be.

All the original edits have been reverted, and we'll run the corrections (under supervision!) tomorrow.

Thanks again, Andrew Gray (talk) 23:02, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Aviation films overcategorization

Hi, just fyi, that same IP editor (from New England, according to Geolocate) who pops up every year or so to add Category:Aviation films to articles already in Category:Documentary films about aviation is back. Myself and another editor have challenged him on this and asked him to stop, and for now at least, he has. You've engaged with him before so I wanted you to be aware, as well. See User talk:24.62.128.35. thanks, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 02:06, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Template removal

You shouldn't be removing templates until after the deletion process, it may yet be in my favour. All you're doing is being disruptive. I'm asking you to stop, or I'll raise it with AN as pointed and ownish behaviour. Thanks, Ma®©usBritish 10:12, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Don't "son" me, please.. there's no "will" only "might". Don't presume to guess.. when the nominator of a deletion starts removing content in favour of the nomination, it's a COI. I also consider it damned impolite to be removing 180 contributions before the community has spoken first. No one gave you that authority. You're supposed to wait for deletion consensus. Don't quote AGF whilst offering me none.. Ma®©usBritish 10:18, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
I never said I did, I'm saying the result of the deletion request authorises/approves the right to delete the templates. Semantics.. don't be funny, you know fine well what I meant. Ma®©usBritish 10:21, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

You welcome, Lugnuts. I'm always glad to help. Thank you for creating so many articles about Olympic athletes. Much appreciated. - Darwinek (talk) 13:44, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

3RR warning

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

That was a 4RR in 24hr. Expect a report at AN3 shortly. If you're going to quote "consensus" learn to live by it. Ma®©usBritish 06:54, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Notice of Edit warring noticeboard discussion

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Misplaced Pages's policy on edit warring. Thank you.

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for edit warring, as you did at Mariken van Nieumeghen (1974 film). Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Bbb23 (talk) 07:43, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

I understand that SR as ref and as EL can not go together, but ...

...based on your vast experience, consider it as "External link" can cover more details than "ref" for the individual results, especially if they, at least, can it be otherwise source. ;-) --Kasper2006 (talk) 06:45, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Re: DEFAULTSORT

For teacher!

You really need to educate yourself better on how "DEFAULTSORT" works at Help:DEFAULTSORT, taking particular note of DEFAULTSORT#Default sort key; by adding a DEFAULTSORT that is identical to the PAGENAME you're adding worthless material to dozens of articles and benefiting no one. DEFAULTSORT should be used for things like reversing names to surname, firstname and excluding "The" from the front of titles, like Invaders, The. If you "already know this" (which you should after 6 years and 200,000+ "edits") then you've got to admit to having a compulsion to be (top) of every article you created, which is highly evident in your editing pattern, do note and I've counted 500+ clear examples, so it's a no-win situation.. at least try to edit with some level of British competence.. ever considered attempting to write some high-quality GA material film articles instead of going back over the same old stubs each day, trying to "better" people who have "out-edited" you by a byte? Must be so boring maintaining stubs all day, as it requires no determinable talent. Well, better let you get back to sentry duty.. I think an IP-editor just tweaked one of "your" pages.

Oh, and I'm not a vindictive man either, just a WP:SPADE owner, but that thing you said about Laramie/gun/knife/barefist fight.. naaaaah, I have a selective conscience, so I'd sooner shoot or stab a manc I dislike in the back than face him on equal terms. Mainly because I don't believe in "survival of the fittest", just "survival of the smartest" (which that episode of Red Dwarf proved). Such is life. And as for "apply for the death penalty", I asked the JobCenter for a job as "executioner" the day they reimpose the DP once, but they don't have a SOC code for it. Albert Pierrepoint would be a busy man these days, were he and the DP still around, and I'd gladly assist him. So don't think remarks like that have any impression on me, I'm not easily intimidated by bullies. You're right, there are 4m+ articles on Wiki to edit.. problem is, you habitually guard "your" 13,000+ creations and make it harder for the rest of us to comfortably enjoy trying to improve them; your attempts to vilify my creation of the John Wayne template, with spurious remarks about my motives, for example, was one such example of a non-collaborative attitude and exhibited territorial behaviour, psychologically speaking. If you don't consider that a problem, you might want to try re-evaluating your methods, because you can never reclaim lost or wasted time. I think that answers all your comments, so there's no further need for discussion. My demand that you remain off my talk page stands.. if you really need to reply, do it here, on your talk page.. all future postings on my page, from you, will be completely ignored and instantly removed,so don't waste your time or my bandwidth, and by stating this I will take any such posts as wilful ignorance of this request (see WP:NOBAN), and WP:IDHT. Perhaps with your recent outburst of discrimination against the Scots, generalisation and attempts to discomfort people make you feel "big" on the internet, but you will find that such keyboard warrior remarks fall more into the WP:TROLL category. As you say, "Happy editing", this semi-polite conversation is now considered resolved and I'm closed to all further discussion per WP:DGAF! Cya, Smeghead! Ma®©usBritish 20:22, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Titles

Okay trouble, you deal with Silent film articles more than I.. do you think Harold Lloyd's feature films is a good title for that article? I don't think we generally use possessive titles.. normally we omit the 's or use an "of" wording.. so wouldn't Harold Lloyd feature films or List of Harold Lloyd feature films seem better? Either way, I'll leave it to you to move if you feel like it. Alternatively, it might even be better to merge it all into the Harold Lloyd filmography and #R given that they are both quite short pages, I don't see why someone has split them, but there might be a reason. There are only two possessive titles in Category:Filmographies that I can see, that Harold Lloyd page, and Richard Harris' filmography.. again I think the use of an apostrophised title is a bad idea and should be moved to fit in with the standard naming convention. Do whatever you think best in each case, I ain't fussed either way.. just cleaning up the sloppy markup did my job. Adios, Ma®©usBritish 16:35, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Okay, go ahead, it's non-controversial.. don't forget to follow the WP:MERGE procedure, Creative Commons edit summaries are required. Ma®©usBritish 16:48, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Have merged it myself, copy-edited lead and headings as required. Refs/cats also transferred. If you want to take a look over it to see that all relevant data has been included, please do so. Size isn't an issue, as we thought, just under 18,000 bytes after editing. Though the earlier films might need converting from list to tables to allow for more content to be added, one day. For now, seems fine. Ma®©usBritish 06:28, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

The Loneliest Planet

Hey Lugnuts. Could you keep on eye on The Loneliest Planet? I am on the verge of breaking 3RR over some editor who has a self-proclaimed COI on her/his talk who continually removes the premiere date and changes the premiere year. BOVINEBOY2008 20:11, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for your helpful edits to the new article I've recently created, One Hundred Years of Evil. Much appreciated, — Cirt (talk) 08:45, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

Now, you will see me one more time if you do good. You will see me two more times, if you do bad

Hey man. Could you check for me what the page numbers for the information you quoted me on the Lynch FLC are? I'd add the material but I can't read the book through Google or Amazon (and am a bit too broke to pick it up just yet). With a page range I could piece it together easy enough from what you've already given me so I'm grand in that regard. Thanks dude. GRAPPLE X 18:16, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

Hurricane Sandy

Could you please explain why you are removing sources and adding a citation needed tag to the Current storm information section. United States Man (talk) 18:54, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

The cite is what you have been removing. WP:NOTNEWS does not apply here. If you remove it again you will be reported for vandalism, as is stated in the hidden note just above the disputed content. United States Man (talk) 18:58, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Tropical cyclones/Style#Current storm information requires it. If you have a problem, you need to go to the project talk page and discuss it there. Until something is resolved it is required to remain on there. United States Man (talk) 19:07, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
If you agree to let this remain on there and stop arguing then I will remove your name. United States Man (talk) 19:18, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

If there are two options ...

...why must to be you to decide which is the correct one? Here someone told you that it is not so and here someone told you that it is not a good thing rollbacked an user without a good reason. --Kasper2006 (talk) 08:08, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

I do not doubt it. But do not you think it's better to ask to the project that primarily uses this tempalte (as I did here)? After all we are good guys is useless to fight. ;-) --Kasper2006 (talk) 08:37, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Fix also Marion Jones and Carl Lewis

They also have with the flag. It's another question for the community. ;-) --Kasper2006 (talk) 08:43, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
