He started his career with FC Barcelona in 1992, in the club's secondary teams, before being promoted to the first FC Barcelona team, playing in La Liga. Valdes is an extremely agile keeper who despite his comparitive younth likes to take control of his defence. He is an excellent shot stopper with fantastic reflexes and has great ability in 1v1 situations. A keeper in the modern mould, he has the ability to make good defensive challenges outside the penalty area.


However, he sometimes looks unsure coming off his line and is belived to be suspect in setpiece situations. But some analysts belive that this more due to the defence that plays in front of him.
As of 2005-2006 season he has improved and has conceded less goals, but is still lacking some regularity, with excellent spells followed by very bad evenings. Although he is emerging as one of the best modern Spanish goalkeepers, he does not get selected for the national squad, as he has to compete against expert goalkeepers, such as, amongst others, ], ] and ], although Barcelona won for two consequetive times ] between 2004-2006.

Víctor Valdés Arribas (born January 14, 1982 in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Catalonia), nicknamed Victor, is a Catalan football goalkeeper, who currently plays for FC Barcelona of the Spanish La Liga.

Club History

He started his career with FC Barcelona in 1992, in the club's youth teams. He only played a few matches in 2002-03 season, as he had to compete for places with the then Argentine InternationalRoberto Bonano.

In the 2003-04 season, he emerged as first-choice goalkeeper, and in the 2004-05 season, he played in almost all of Barcelona's matches.

2005-] season saw him cement his place among the top goalkeepers in La Liga with some exceptional performances. Valdes played a big part in Barca's UEFA Champions League 2005-06 title and in the final against Arsenal he denied Thierry Henry twice from point-blank range.

His performances for Barca have won him many admirers and he is considered as the worthy successor of the great Zubizarreta.
